This is the nativity scene in a Claremont California United Methodist Church showing the Holy Family inside three chain link cells topped with razor wire.

I’m aware that as a person who professes no faith that this might seem like a non-issue, but as a cultural touchstone, this is pretty powerful, a whack upside the head with a 2×4.

“In a statement posted by the minister, Karen Clark Ristine, the church said that after fleeing a tyrant king, Jesus, Mary and Joseph became “the most well-known refugee family in the world.”

“What if this family sought refuge in our country today?” the church said. “Imagine Joseph and Mary separated at the border and Jesus no older than two taken from his mother and placed behind the fences of a Border Patrol detention center.”

“Inside the church, the family is reunited in a separate nativity scene, the statement said.

“Ristine could not be reached for comment Sunday.”

Probably because she was hiding for her life. The Xritians do not tolerate any dissent at the altar of Lord Jeebus Prznint Stupid.

(Last night when I started following this story on Twitter, while powerful, I didn’t see much pushback except of the usual Libtard variety directed at those of us who retweeted the news story. I don’t go out of my way to look for hate tweeting, but I understand that there is a lot.)

Right-wingers really don’t like to be reminded that, despite their assertions, they are not Christians by any stretch of the imagination.

When I first saw it this morning, it took my breath away. It’s a brutally stunning statement. It reminds me of the controversial cartoon that showed Trump golfing over the bodies of drowned immigrants. Until Americans open their eyes and see the devastating cost of this administration’s actions, we may never see the end of atrocities.

I’ll put the Christ back in Christmas when these people put the Christ back into Christianity.

I sent the Reverend Karen from the Claremont UMC a quick note – just a “thank you, more please.”
I figure, though there are serious problems with the UMC, generally and specifically, she might find support useful. Seems to me that the world is a better place when truth is applauded.

That display is genius; its creator should receive a MacArthur Grant?.
