ITMFA Update

WASHINGTON, DC – DECEMBER 04: Committee chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler (L) (D-NY) speaks while committee ranking member Rep. Doug Collins (R) (R-GA) looks up during an impeachment hearing where constitutional scholars testified before the House Judiciary Committee in the Longworth House Office Building on Capitol Hill December 4, 2019 in Washington, DC. This is the first hearing held by the House Judiciary Committee in the impeachment inquiry against U.S. President Donald Trump, whom House Democrats say held back military aid for Ukraine while demanding it investigate his political rivals. The Judiciary Committee will decide whether to draft official articles of impeachment against President Trump to be voted on by the full House of Representatives. Wingnuttia’s brain trust has spoken: House Republicans Say The Senators Running For President Shouldn’t Be Allowed To Be Jurors In Trump’s Impeachment Trial

WASHINGTON — House Republicans are introducing legislation calling for senators running for president in 2020 to sit out the impeachment trial.

Rep. Jason Smith of Missouri will introduce a resolution Thursday recommending that any senator running to challenge President Donald Trump should recuse themselves from the expected Senate trial. The resolution was provided in advance to BuzzFeed News. It is unlikely to pass in the Democrat-controlled House and would not be binding but would serve as a suggestion from the House

How Smith plans to get that past Nancy Pelosi’s desk remains a mystery, but it would be interesting to see if the Graveyard of amply be-chinned #MoscowMitch might, for the first time this congress, take up a bill.

This is what is known in the trade as a long shot.

If they expand that to include any Senator who has had Trump campaign or fund raise for them then I’m all for it.

That picture up top– at first glance, I thought Mr. Collins name plate said “Barking Member.” That’s actually what it should say.

So even with a majority in the Senate, the Republicans want to stack the odds still more? It sounds like somebody is worried.

  8. I assume the same would apply to Gorsuch and Kavanaugh as SCOTUS Justices appointed by Orange Julius. [listens to earpiece] I’m being told this only applies to Democrats, and that due process only means that the President gets his way. /headdesk
