Dump Trump (ITMFA!) and the Republicans

A lot of the media and virtually all of the Republicans are in lock-step telling us that today’s hearings are a snooze-fest, the most obvious one being Tiger Beat who had this title for their afternoon email thingie: POLITICO Playbook PM: Zzzzz … or not:

IT’S EASY TO SAY this hearing is boring — because it is. It’s an hourslong Con Law seminar, anchored by four professors who are arguing the history and finer points of impeachment…

And so, sleepy and boring, here is what they missed:

In his opening statement, ranking member Doug Collins (R-Ga.) complained that the committee’s first hearing had not called any fact witnesses and was relying on constitutional scholars called by Democrats to discuss the basis for impeachment. Stanford University Law Professor Pamela Karlan was criticized by Republicans for having a bias against Trump, but she rejected that argument by citing the “evidentiary record” before the committee, which she said shows that the president solicited foreign election interference for his own political gain.

But don’t take my word for it, listen to the Professor:

Back to Tiger Beat:

BUT THE LARGER QUESTION is this: Will there be clippable moments for Democrats, who are trying to make the case that voting to remove President DONALD TRUMP is airtight?

See above, Tiger Beat. Or see below, this quote from the GOP witness:

“I get it. You’re mad. The president’s mad. My Republican friends are mad. My Democratic friends are mad. My wife is mad. My kids are mad. Even my dog seems mad. And Luna’s a goldendoodle, and they don’t get mad. So we’re all mad. Where has that taken us? Will … a slipshod impeachment make us less mad? Will it only invite an invitation for the madness to follow every future administration? That is why this is wrong. It’s not wrong because President Trump was right. His call was anything but perfect.”

That’s not exactly an air-tight defense, or as Scissorhead D-Cap says:

Of course, we also know that the Politburo, er, Fox News was encouraging their orcs, minions, and assorted mouth-breathers in Possum Hollar to pay no attention to the impeachment hearings. So, per usual, I don’t expect much resonance from Possum Hollar other than repeating whatever Hannity tells them to say.

[Full disclosure: I was busy in meat-world today and so I paid no attention to the hearings, and now I’m kinda scrambling to catch up. There will probably be more tomorrow AM once I’ve put on my pointy hat, er, thinking cap.]

Did Petunia version 9.37 not cross her legs today?

After all these years I just can’t … so here’s the thing about tin-foil: back in the day we used to twisted it up into oddly mesmeric spider-webby contrivances to CAPTURE television signals. All these years people been wearing tin-foil caps when what you really want to prevent any radioactivity (heh) is lead-foil. I know, heavy, ugly, makes your hair oily but … just saying.

I don’t find the hearings to be boring at all. As a matter of fact, they stress me out so much that I have to walk away. Every time a Republican speaks, my blood pressure zooms up and I want to throw things. It’s night and day, the disparity between the logic and calm of the Democrats and the frenzied panic, shouting, and anger being displayed by the Republicans.

Infuriating, but not boring by a long shot.

Truly doesn’t “get it”. It doesn’t matter that I’m mad. The law was broken. We prosecute crimes, not people. Apparently, Jonathan needs some remedial education.

Johnathan Turley, his wife, kids and dog are mad. The president is mad. The Democrats and republicans are mad. EVERYBODY is mad. But Jonathan Turley doesn’t explain why people are mad. One thing is for sure. I can assure Johnathan that I am not mad because James Madison had second thoughts about impeachment.
