The Adventures of Tariffman!

Comrade Preznint Stupid picks his fights carefully.

Yesterday, Comrade Stupid took his fingers out of his nose long enough to tweet:

…and thus escalated his “good” and easy-to-win Trade Wars. As of October, his trade wars have resulted in:

And of course his latest escalation was never negotiated prior to his tweet:

Trump’s action against Brazil and Argentina took officials in both countries by surprise. Typically, the U.S. provides businesses with some warning of tariff changes, delaying their effective date to allow goods in transit to arrive at American ports without being taxed. But the president tweeted that his tariff order was “effective immediately.” In a sign of how abruptly Trump had acted, his own administration was unprepared to provide details.

Comrade Stupid:

“Our steel companies will be very happy, and our farmers will be very happy.”

If by happy he means pissed-off, then yes:

[Steel and aluminum] tariffs have…angered American manufacturers of automobiles, machinery, food packaging and other products, who must pay more for the metal they purchase. The Brazil Steel Institute, which represents the interests of steel exporters, said in a statement that it found the new tariffs “perplexing” and warned that it would harm companies in both countries. “The decision will end up harming the American steel producing companies, which need the semifinished products exported by Brazil to operate its plants,” the institute said.

So it was just another stunning success for Tariffman!

UPDATE 1: Today, at NATO, Comrade Stupid says,

“I have no deadline, no. In some ways I think it’s better to wait until after the election, if you want to know the truth. … In some ways I like waiting until after the election for the China deal.”

UPDATE 2: “Trump’s latest trade war: French champagne vs. Google taxes”

Why hasn’t anyone from the “D” side challenged him on these? He’s bent that whole “National Security” excuse until it’s good and horizontal, and the rest of his excuses and justifications are just as laughable. I long to return to the day when at least SOME of these valiant law-breakers, er -makers had a vestige of a spine, and a willingness to either swing their dick or piss the farthest in such a competition.

Without such pushback, it seems like it’s all orchestrated or something…

That has occurred to me as well; also that the stupidity may be still playing into hands of those who do not wish the US well. If he weakens everything in this fashion, and he seems to be, well. If I take that any further, I’ll sound like my dad in 1964… but seriously, how is this stuff helping anyone at all? I ask for info, because it makes no sense to me.
