Dump Trump (ITMFA!) and the Republicans

Courtesy of Tiger Beat on the Potomac (thanks Charlie!) morning email thingie (enigmatic emboldening is theirs):

This week: House Intel Chairman ADAM SCHIFF (D-Calif.) will start circulating his report to members, and his committee will vote on it Tuesday. Expect attacks on Schiff and the Intel process and continued undermining of the committee’s work. Wednesday is Judiciary’s first hearing about what an impeachable offense is. THE PRESIDENT — as we foreshadowed last week — is not participating.

SOMETIME DURING THIS WEEK, House Judiciary Chairman JERRY NADLER (D-N.Y.) will likely formally announce a hearing with Schiff to present the report. By Friday, the White House has to say whether it will participate in the impeachment process at all.

NEXT WEEK (DEC. 9): Expect an early presentation of Schiff’s report and the noticing of a Republican response. Will this happen during the same week? Unclear — but it will be telling in understanding whether Dems can impeach by the end of the year. The DOJ IG report on the origins of the Russia probe will come out this same week. And Congress will likely begin considering some funding bills ahead of a Dec. 20 deadline (more on that in a second).

WEEK OF DEC. 16: Expect a public GOP response in the committee to Schiff and his report this week. And, if the Dems want to impeach before the end of the year, we’d have to see articles of impeachment this week. Remember: It took Judiciary three days in 1998 to draft impeachment articles. And, to complicate things further, government funding runs out Dec. 20.

PONDER THIS: Politically, Democrats are already all in on impeachment. Yes, they’re worried about the onset of the 2020 primary contests, but what do they gain by jamming it through now instead of waiting until next year?

Also from Tiger Beat:

OTHER KEY DATES … Monday: DOJ brief due in the Mueller grand jury case at the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals; SDNY hearing for Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman at 2 p.m. Wednesday: Supporting briefs due in the Charles Kupperman suit; Thursday: Speaker Nancy Pelosi appears at a CNN town hall; Friday: White House due to respond to Nadler about its participation in future impeachment hearings.

Not to be outdone, Axios tells us bout this startling brain fart from the Republicans:

Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, said on “Fox News Sunday” that the first witness Republicans will attempt to call in the upcoming impeachment hearing is House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

The exchange:

CHRIS WALLACE: “Will Republicans on the committee call for subpoena witnesses to testify, and if so, who are you going to ask to testify?”

COLLINS: “First and foremost, the person who needs to testify is Adam Schiff. Adam Schiff is the author of this report. Adam Schiff has been the author of many things, a lot of them found to be false over the past couple of years. But he’s going to be the author of this report. He’s compared himself in the past to a special counsel. … My first and foremost witness is Adam Schiff.”

WALLACE: “So you want to bring him in before the committee, not just to present a report, but to take questions from Democrats and be cross-examined, if you will, by the Republicans?”

COLLINS: “He needs to be. He’s put himself in that position, and if he chooses not to, then I really question his veracity and what he’s putting into his report. I question the motives of why he’s doing it. It’s easy to hide behind a report. It’s easy to hide behind a gavel.”

So again, when the facts are not on your side… but just for giggles, let’s see who the Republicans have on the committee (I’ve highlighted a few who have become MPS favorites over the years):

  • Doug Collins Ranking Member
  • Kelly Armstrong
  • Tom McClintock
  • John Ratcliffe
  • Gym Jordan, Pride of Ohio Wrestling
  • Guy Reschenthaler
  • Martha Roby
  • Jim Sensenbrenner, Tampon Heir
  • Greg Steube
  • Debbie Lesko
  • Mike Johnson
  • Andy Biggs
  • Ken Buck
  • Steve Chabot
  • Benjamin Lee “Ben” Cline
  • Floriduh Man Matt Gaetz
  • Screwie Louie Gohmert Jr.

This will make an excellent 3 Stooges-style pie fight. But I digress.

There is exactly zero percent chance that Jerry Nadler is going to have Adam Schiff testify, just as there is zero chance that The Russian Usurper’s lawyers will let him show up.

Oh boy! The republicans are sending in their best!
Can someone tell me what false documents he’s referring to in regards to Schiff? I don’t know what he’s talking about.

  2. Debbie Lesko and Andy Biggs ought to be good for some whoppers. their proud GOP members from the TSKoA, and have bona fide wingnut credentials.

  3. MJG says:

There will be a pissing contest between Jordan and Gohmert, guaranteed.

  4. roket says:

It’s pretty much a given that the republicans will cast aspersions on the Democrat’s asparagus.

  5. laura says:

Hey, when you really need a guy to look away while crimin’s commencing for years, you can’t do better than gym jordan.

  6. paul fredine says:

wouldn’t be a real pie fight without three of the stoogiest (yes, it is a word!) stooges, jordan (moe, the bulliest), gaetz (larry, the go-along) and gohmert (obvious curly, the dumbest).
