Two out of three governors’ races in the south have gone for the blue and away from the Orange, inspite of his multiple visits and the RNC throwing millions of Ameros their way. Anyway, last night John Bel Edwards was re-elected by a non-trivial number of voters. His opponent was Preznint Stupid, btw.
Two elections is a small data set, and I suppose we shouldn’t draw too many conclusions from it. Prznint Stupid said it was personal: “And the headlines the next day: Trump took a loss. I lift him up a lot. So Trump took a loss, so you got to give me a big win, please. OK? OK? ”
No. Not even when you begged could you get this candidate across the finish line.
Anyway, if there is one thing we can conclude over a much larger dataset starting with the 2018 elections, it is that Prznint Stupid is a singularity. Other Republicans try to imitate his schtick and lose (Ed Gillespie in Virginia gubernatorial election in 2017 being a great example), or they cling close to him and lose like Eddie Rispone last night.
We keep saying it, there is no Trumpism, there is only the Republican Party. And what he is showing us is that he has no coattails. If Trump’s catchfart Republicans in the Senate were smart, they would see that his support is actually really shallow in non-district (read gerrymandered) elections.
We expect later today for our Narcissist-in-chief to distance himself from the loss.
