Sen. Professor Warren sprang a trap this week, and she makes a great point:
We intentionally made a Facebook ad with false claims and submitted it to Facebook’s ad platform to see if it’d be approved. It got approved quickly and the ad is now running on Facebook. Take a look: pic.twitter.com/7NQyThWHgO

It’s really a damning proof that Facebook—as Warren says—”chooses profit” over “protecting democracy,” not that we needed much more proof. Social Media is highly weaponized (d’uh) but our regulatory agencies give them a free pass. There is no truth in advertising laws on the web, and frankly there ought to be. Fox News is held to a higher standard than Facebook.
Let that sink in for a moment.
To me, this isn’t really an argument to break up Facebook (there are other, better arguments, and yes it should be broken up), but this is an argument to recognize the power that social media has and the complete lack of responsibility that they have shown. In an age of sociopaths, Facebook is the 800-pound gorilla of sociopathology.
