The Great and Unmatched Wisdom of Our Stable Genius

Tonight on the Apprentice: Stable Genius Signs Empty Papers

The White House issued a formal (and totally bananas) letter stating it refuses to cooperate with the House’s impeachment inquiry in any way. I’m shocked. Shocked, I say.

Tiger Beat has the deets:

“In a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the three committee chairs leading the impeachment probe, White House Counsel Pat Cipollone all but declared that the Trump administration will refuse to engage with a process it considers to be constitutionally invalid. ‘Given that your inquiry lacks any legitimate constitutional foundation, any pretense of fairness, or even the most elementary due process protections, the executive branch cannot be expected to participate in it,’ Cipollone wrote.

“The eight-page letter reads more like a political document than a legal one, echoing many of President Donald Trump’s claims about the House Democrats who are investigating him. It also calls on Democrats to dismantle the process they set up to impeach Trump over allegations that he abused his power by pressuring Ukrainian leaders to help discredit his political rivals.”

Prznint Stupid also directly intervened to obstruct the inquiry.

Incriminating Text Message Writer, Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union flew in from Europe to testify on Capitol Hill but then canceled his guest appearance in response to White House instructions.

House Democrats said that they consider this obstruction. (Fact check: TRUE!)

The Dems have subpoenaed Sondland’s testimony and documents.

The Axios morning email thingie connects some dots like a common blogger!

Compared to the Mueller investigation, the Ukraine phone call appears to have more resonance with the general public.

  • Republicans close to leadership and the White House tell Swan they’re concerned by trend lines in a Washington Post poll showing 49% of Americans think Trump should be removed from office.
  • Top Republicans don’t believe the numbers in the Post poll, which found support for an impeachment inquiry rising among Republicans by 21 points since July.
  • Trump’s abrupt announcement that he would withdraw from Syria and clear the way for the Turks to charge in (and perhaps massacre the Kurds) has added to this anxiety about Trump weakening the support he needs among Republican lawmakers.

And of course, the GOP talking points are starting to unify onto “IT’S A COUP!!1!” because, well, why not. They got nothing.

Last word to Nancy Pelosi:

“For a while, the president has tried to normalize lawlessness. Now, he is trying to make lawlessness a virtue. The American people have already heard the president’s own words – ‘do us a favor, though.’

“The president’s actions threaten our national security, violate our Constitution and undermine the integrity of our elections. The White House letter is only the latest attempt to cover up his betrayal of our democracy, and to insist that the president is above the law.”

It’s the old saying amongst lawyers (I paraphrase): When you have the facts on your side, pound the facts; when you have the law on your side, pound the law; when you have neither, pound the table. The table is starting to protest.

This is a dog whistle USS Enterprise Red Alert klaxon to the various domestic terrorist factions on their side. “It’s open season, boys!”

The scariest thing is that this may well be penertrating inot the actual armed forces. The GOP would just looooove them a civil war, because a hell of a lot of them and their base think they can just kill their way to their beautiful “perfect” country.
