Prznint Stupid’s former 2016 Goat Rodeo campaign manager, pugilist dimwit Corey Lewandowski, is testifying before the House Judiciary Committee, per the AP:
“A devoted friend and supporter of the president, Lewandowski isn’t expected to elaborate much beyond what he told [special counsel Robert] Mueller’s investigators last year.
“Mueller himself testified this summer, with no bombshells. Two other witnesses who were subpoenaed alongside Lewandowski — former White House aides Rick Dearborn and Rob Porter — won’t show up at all, on orders from the White House.”
The legal theory holding Lewandowski from a full testimony is called
bullshit, er, Executive Privilege. As Lewandowski never worked in the gubmint (and was notably You’re Fired’ed to be replaced with fashion felon Paul Manafort) he really is not covered by any legal principle, but when has that ever stopped strategic hire AG Bill ‘Low’ Barr?
To that end, today’s other guests, Rick Dearborn and Rob Porter, have sent their regrets citing the White House’s newest legal brain fart theory of Absolute Immunity, which is made up of the same material as the Emperor’s New Clothes.
Tiger Beat on the Potomac (thanks Charlie!) morning email thingie:
“GRAB YOUR POPCORN — Corey Lewandowski is expected to show up later today for his House Judiciary Committee testimony, a big win for Democrats who have struggled to get Mueller’s witnesses in front of the cameras. But, as expected, the White House has intervened. Late Monday night, White House Counsel Pat Cipollone told Jerry Nadler that Lewandowski will not discuss his conversations with the president, other than those described in the Mueller report (though Democrats are still betting that will produce some damning fodder for the public.)
“The White House also informed Nadler that the president was blocking former top aides Rob Porter and Rick Dearborn from testifying altogether, asserting the same “absolute immunity” claims it has used to block other witnesses, including Don McGahn, from testifying. Nadler, in a late-night statement, called these assertions “shocking” and “dangerous.” He continued: “If [Trump] were to prevail in this cover-up while the Judiciary Committee is considering whether to recommend articles of impeachment, he would upend the separation of powers as envisioned by our founders.”
Grow a spine, Democrats, and get this before a judge.
