RIP, Ric Ocasek

He was 75. No cause of death was given, at least not yet.

It really is the end of an era.

I’m always going to think of The Cars (and Blondie) as the bands who rescued us from disco in the late ’70s and early ’80s. It was such a moment, a real sharp break from the bankruptcy of Disco Lucy when those iconic guitar riffs would come over the speakers at parties. And I think we all knew that a new era started.

Thanks Ric, you will be missed.

Oh wow. That really sucks. Even now, no week goes by without my Cars fix. I guess I know what I’m listening to on my way to work tomorrow.

Man, oh man! The actuarial factor truly sucks

This guy was one of the icons of my 1980s salad days. Losing him reminds me of the absolute shock I felt when Walter Becker died. Pretty damn sobering.

The Cars were in on the grand floor of MTV as well. They made some pretty awesome music videos too.

Damn. He will be remembered as much for his work as a producer as he will be for his work as one of the Cars’ frontmen.

I like Ric in comedic mode:
