Ugh: Tiger Beat’s Sunday email thingie tells us:
“NEWS … MARK HALPERIN has signed a deal with Regan Arts to publish a book called “How to Beat Trump: America’s Top Political Strategists on What It Will Take,” the publisher will announce Monday. The book is Halperin’s first major project since multiple accusations about him were published in the height of the Me Too movement in October 2017. The book will be released in November of this year.”
As you may recall about that bloodless description “multiple accusations” (emphasis mine):
“Two days after CNN first reported that five women said “Game Change” co-author and journalist Mark Halperin sexually harassed or assaulted them during his time at ABC News, the number of accusers has grown to at least a dozen women, including four who are now sharing their accounts for the first time. Another woman, who shared her account in CNN’s initial article on the condition her name not be published, is now speaking out on the record.”
Halperin’s horniness was not some sort of misunderstood horseplay, Halperin frottage’d, flashed (and more), and then threatened these women’s careers if they did not comply. He was summarily fired from all of his media outlets, cast out of the Beltway, and was not seen in polite society again.
Back to Tiger Beat (on Sunday):
— JUDITH REGAN will release this statement about why she is publishing Halperin’s book: “I do not in any way, shape, or form condone any harm done by one human being to another. I have also lived long enough to believe in the power of forgiveness, second chances, and offering a human being a path to redemption. HOW TO BEAT TRUMP is an important, thoughtful book, and I hope everyone has a chance to read it.”
The Villagers have spoken and The Gingrich Rules are still operative (hat tip: Driftglass).
I don’t know if Halperin will return to Morning Joe, but those moral pillars are nothing if not flexible in their strong, principled positions.
