Unintended Consequences ARE Hair Füror’s Bread and Butter

Trump Time!

The LATimes morning email thingie:

“The Trump administration’s new policy — which could deny green cards to immigrants who use Medicaid, food stamps or some other kinds of public assistance — could have a serious chilling effect on California’s economy, experts and advocates say. That’s because immigrants, including those who already have green cards or are citizens, may unenroll from benefits such as Medi-Cal or CalFresh out of fear for it could cost them their or their family members’ legal status. A study last year found such a policy change could cost the state as many as 17,700 jobs and would hit the healthcare sector particularly hard.”

Medi-Cal is the name of California’s Medicaid program, and right away everyone–not just Californians–should be alarmed by this projection.

Immigrants—who are being targeted by this new rule—are the backbone of the workforce in border and gulf states. Diminishing them diminishes everyone, and the economy will take a greater punch than whatever is being saved by kicking immigrant people off of assorted social services.

As we’ve noted before, Prznint Stupid is incapable of planning or executing to a plan, he’s just a seat-of-the-pants buffoon, and his extreme white privilege insulates him from the consequences of his actions. He sees punching down as a campaign strategy that will rile up his base (and he’s right), but when the pandemic hits, Possum Hollar won’t have any greater medical help than now, and they won’t have anyone to dig their literal graves.

While the coastal and border states may become serious victims of these possibly unconstitutional rules (14th amendment), they apply everywhere and Latin immigrants have become a pretty important component of the working populations of Iowa, Kansas and places like that. I personally think that Nazis like Stephen Miller actually want to sow continual chaos among the legal and illegal immigrant population precisely to destabilize local economies. Problem is that this chaos damages at least as many red states as blue states. But, at this point, the Trump Maladministration is just throwing shit up onto the walls to see if any of it will stick.

  4. This is hardly unintended, any more than the removal of the local and state tax deduction was in the Tax scam bill.

They’re deliberately trying to weaken the blue states, economically and politically, and if all else fails they’ll start whipping their brownshirts into even more mass murder.

This is a well-trod path to fascist dictatorship.

I’m honestly getting a really scary dystopian vibe that this is what the oligarch elites actually want. They’re not so stupid as to really believe global warming isn’t a problem, and they’re fully aware that AI and robotics can render vast swathes of humanity superfluous.

Why not fix several problems at once by engineering the death of, say, 90% of humanity…

I can most definitely see people like Peter Thiel thinking this way.

      BRD,
The oligarch elites don’t really think past themselves or care if the problem manifests itself 25 to 30 years from now because they’re banking on not being around to deal with it. So to be fair, it not really what they want, they just don’t give a rats ass as long as they get theirs.

      BDR,
The problem with that fix is that to make use of those robots one needs a mass market to buy what the robots bang together, and that what the flesh and blood employees need is better than minimum wage to be able to buy anything.
I sometimes wonder if the 1% realizes that when the last great financier finally corners the last dollar and owns them all, money immediately lose all value and turns into shit?
