“The man accused of carrying out last weekend’s deadly mass shooting at a Walmart in the Texas border city of El Paso confessed to officers while he was surrendering and later explained that he had been targeting Mexicans, authorities say… [the suspect] later waived his Miranda rights and agreed to speak with detectives, telling them he entered the store with an AK-47 assault rifle and multiple magazines, and that he was targeting Mexicans.”
So it was a hate crime, not video games, not violent movies, not any of the usual excuses and it was inspired by Donald Trump’s racist, white supremacist rhetoric and actions:
“Authorities believe that shortly before the attack, Crusius posted a racist screed online that railed against an influx of Hispanics into the U.S. The document parrots some of President Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric about immigration, but the writer said his views predate Trump’s rise and that any attempt to blame the president for his actions was “fake news.”
That’s parroting. The killer is 21 now, so in 2015—when our stable Imperial-Wizard-In-Chief was first coming down the golden escalator to enter the 2016 Goat Rodeo and calling Mexicans rapists and criminals and citing the invasion of the country—he would have been 16 or 17 years old and already a racist/white supremacist. I suppose that’s possible, but somehow seems unlikely.
Anyway, in related news, Prznint Stupid and Moscow Mitch have agreed to consider background check requirements on gun purchases. McConnell said a measure to expand background checks to all gun purchasers would be front and center when the Senate comes back into session next month, and said members would also discuss red flag legislation that would make it easier to take guns away from people who have been deemed dangerous to themselves or others.
And I am czar of all the Russias. Keep the pressure on amply be-chinned Mitch. The fact that he even said this at all shows that he blinked. Don’t let him get away with murder.
