Today in History

We could use a writer like Thompson again

Dr. Hunter S. Thompson was born on this date in 1937. Instructive Quote:

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”
― Hunter S. Thompson, The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman, 1955-1967

  1. I did not know that quote was his.

My MIL had a cutesy plaque with that quote in her bathroom at the assisted living place she was in.

I’d have to look, but I think my wife claimed that plaque out of her stuff when we divvied everything up this spring when Mom died…

“Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas” might be the most entertaining book I’ve ever read.
