To the extent that money=enthusiasm for candidates, then we should start seeing news about how much money the 2020 Goat Rodeo Contenders have raised, as the quarterly filings are starting to roll in.
Axios’ morning email thingie tells us (weird emboldening and enigmatic use of bullets is theirs):
Breaking … Mayor Pete Buttigieg released his Q2 fundraising this morning, a whopping $24.8 million, with the news that 400,000 people have now donated to his campaign.
- Why it matters: Sen. Bernie Sanders — with a prebuilt list of donors from 2016 — topped the field of 20-something Democrats with $18.2 million in Q1.
So I guess Mayor Pete will be in the next round of debates.
And CBSNews tells us that the beating Sen. Kamala Harris gave to Handsome Old Joe Biden resulted in an overnight $2M Ameros increase in her campaign funding! Maybe the pundits who have crowned him the inevitable candidate are (as usual) wrong?
Of course, it also brought Harris some unwanted attention from Junior Mints—as always trying to get Daddy to notice him. Anyway, The Noted Black Studies Scholar twattered/deleted that Harris is not black enough, presumably because her family was not here during the antebellum. So I guess people are only black enough for Junior if they are the descendants from slaves? That’s so messed up, I don’t even know where to begin, so I will remind everyone that the Brits also brought slaves to Jamaica, where her family comes from, so…
