‘Oops,’ Said Faceberg (Part Infinity)

Vice:

A fake video of Mark Zuckerberg giving a sinister speech about the power of Facebook has been posted to Instagram. The company previously said it would not remove this type of video.

I’m guessing that Nancy Pelosi is laughing.

“The video, created by artists Bill Posters and Daniel Howe in partnership with advertising company Canny, shows Mark Zuckerberg sitting at a desk, seemingly giving a sinister speech about Facebook’s power. The video is framed with broadcast chyrons that say “We’re increasing transparency on ads,” to make it look like it’s part of a news segment.

“(On Tuesday evening, CBS requested that Facebook take down the video, as it displays “an unauthorized use of the CBSN trademark,” a spokesperson said.)”

It’s amazing – and quite frightening as well – what can be done with video-editing software these days. And you know what they say, Mark – Live by the sword, die by the sword.

For someone who has always touted how the world would be a better place by sharing info amongst online social communities and thus having to be continually reminded that most people prefer having their privacy, it’s very hypocritical that Faceberg chooses to have black electrical tape placed on all of his video cameras attached to his personal laptops and iPhones.

On that topic, I can tell you that my anti-virus program (AVG) regularly pops-up a warning that the Webcam on my computer can be remotely activated and controlled, and so I clicked on the “show me” button once, and voilá, I was the star of the big little screen. The thing is, I can’t get the fuckin’ thing to work on my own! I’m sure I could, if I tried hard enough, and spent the time looking for the program that runs it, but since I have little or no need for it, why bother?
But it DOES bother me that someone “out there” can do this, and who knows what else?
