Pop Quiz!

A little music to get you in the mood?

First, the set-up courtesy of Axios:

19 Democratic candidates visited the Iowa Democratic Party’s Hall of Fame yesterday to deliver a five-minute campaign pitch to a throng of state party activists — and they hit the stage with a walk-out song of their own choosing, per TIME’s Lissandra Villa:

For the most point, I think that these are pretty good songs for the candidates! I like that The Clash is making a strong showing. Not all of the songs are spot-on, of course. But we’re not here to slag on the Democrats, we are here to slag on the Republicans!

For 1/17 of 1/3 of a point towards your midterm test, select a song for Comrade Stupid and explain your choice.

For a bonus, you can direct your musical chops to ANY Republican of your choice and pretend s/he is running and choose a song for him/her.

For comrade stupid, I nominate that Chestnut from way back in the 80’s when I was just a yoot:
Nazi Punks Fuck Off by San Francisco’s own Dead Kennedys. Here’s a ‘splainer:

I’ll jump in; the water is still. 🙂 For Comrade Stupid, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrgpZ0fUixs . It’s “I’m an A—–e,” by Denis Leary. No offense to Denis Leary, but the song tends to fit. For my KS-04 US rep, “A Well-Respected Man,” by The Kinks; https://www.songfacts.com/facts/the-kinks/a-well-respected-man .

First song that popped into my mind was “Pop Goes the Weasel.”

  4. TMBG, “Everything Right is Wrong Again”….

  5. D Loresch says:

Mongoloid, by Devo. Speaks for itself

    • D Loresch says:

I take that back … not really fair or appropriate.
Should be something more like “Eve of Destruction”, or “For What It’s Worth”

  6. Showing my age a little here, but my too-obvious choice for Bone Spurs is “Liar, Liar” by The Castaways. No further ‘splanation needed.

  7. Steve-O says:

“They’re coming to take me away” keeps popping in my head.

    “Flowers on the Wall”

It’s good to see you, I must go, I know I look a fright
Anyway, my eyes are not accustomed to this light
And my shoes are not accustomed to this hard concrete
So I must go back to my room and make my day complete

Counting flowers on the wall, that don’t bother me at all
Playing solitaire ’til dawn with a deck of fifty one
Smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo
Now don’t tell me I’ve nothing to do
Don’t tell me I’ve nothing to do

Bonus to laura upthread for the perfect song (TG, give her my points).

    The easiest choice would be Green Day’s (great song) Ode to bush the junior ‘American Idiot’;

But I will regress back a bit to one of my all time favourite artists Bruce Cockburn.

    The lyrics to this song can be applied;

    Because lies.

  13. Jay Inslee, clearly a Guardians of the Galaxy fan 🙂 (Just watched GotG II this weekend, “Mr. Blue Sky” was the title music)

Warren’s been playing “9 to 5” all along, I think…it’s kinda her theme song.

For trump, I’d suggest the Eurythmics “Thorn in my side”, but that’s more like the song WE want to play him off to.

Sex Pistols “Don Came From Queens”

    Don came from Queens

attractive to morons and suckers for cons…

  20. Bosma says:

Perhaps a bit too on the nose, but still perfect …

you think you’re gonna to live your life alone
    in darkness
    and seclusion
    yeah I know
    you’ve been out there
tried to mix with those animals
and it just left you full of humiliated confusion
    so you stagger back home
    and wait for nothing
but the solitary refinement of your room spits you back out onto the street
    and now you’re desperate
and in need of human contact
    and then
    you meet me
    and you whole world changes
because everything I say is everything you’ve ever wanted to hear
so you drop all your defenses and you drop all your fears
    and you trust me completely
    I’m perfect
    in every way
cause I make you feel so strong and so powerful inside
    you feel so lucky
    but your ego obscures reality
and you never bother to wonder why
    things are going so well
    you want to know why?
    cause I’m a liar
    yeah I’m a liar
    I’ll tear your mind out
    I’ll burn your soul
    I’ll turn you into me
    I’ll turn you into me
    cause I’m a liar, a liar
    a liar, a liar
    I’ll hide behind a smile
    and understanding eyes
and I’ll tell you things that you already know
    so you can say
I really identify with you, so much
and all the time that you’re needing me
is just the time that I’m bleeding you
    don’t you get it yet?
I’ll come to you like an affliction
and I’ll leave you like an addiction
    you’ll never forget me
    you want to know why?
    cause I’m a liar
    yeah I’m a liar
    I’ll rip your mind out
    I’ll burn your soul
    I’ll turn you into me
    I’ll turn you into me
    cause I’m a liar, a liar
    liar, liar, liar, liar
I don’t know why I feel the need to lie
and cause you so much pain
    maybe it’s something inside
    maybe it’s something I can’t explain
    cause all I do
is mess you up and lie to you
    I’m a liar
    oh, I am a liar
if you’ll give me one more chance
I swear that I will never lie to you again
because now I see the destructive power of a lie
    they’re stronger than truth
    I can’t believe I ever hurt you
    I swear
I will never to you lie again, please
just give me one more chance
I will never lie to you again
    I swear
that I will never tell a lie
I will never tell a lie
    no, no
ha ha ha ha ha hah haa haa haa haaa
    oh, sucker
    I am a liar
    yeah, I am a liar
    yeah I like it
    I feel good
    ohh I am a liar
    I lie
    I lie
    I lie
    oh, I lie
    oh I lie
    I lie
    ohhh I’m a liar
    I lie
    I like it
    I feel good
    I’ll lie again
    and again
    I’ll lie again and again
    and I’ll keep lying
    I promise

    The Beatles

    “He’s a real nowhere man
    Sitting in his nowhere land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody.”

  22. Dan says:

More for his mouth-breathing acolytes I suppose, especially since they don’t understand the 1st — but still appropriate (in this case I prefer the cover to the original):
