Jeebus Saves

Hey guys, remember the anti-lynching bill that recently was unanimously passed by the Senate, making it a Federal Hate Crime to lynch someone? Everyone rejoiced, amiright, that 50 years after the Civil Rights Act the US Gubmint finally acknowledged that lynching is a hate crime!

Everyone except the theocrats, that is.

You see, the bill included references to gender identity and sexual orientation, and lo! the Xristians feel that their rights are being trampled somehow:

In an interview this week with Christian news outlet OneNewsNow, Liberty Counsel chair Mat Staver argued that references to sexual orientation and gender identity in the bill would make it easier for the government to pass additional protections for LGBTQ people.

“The old saying is once that camel gets the nose in the tent, you can’t stop them from coming the rest of the way in,” Staver said. “And this would be the first time that you would have in federal law mentioning gender identity and sexual orientation as part of this anti-lynching bill.”

Staver said that he generally supported the anti-lynching legislation, but argued that the language was a way to “slip in” LGBTQ rights as part of a bill legislators would struggle to openly oppose.

“So far they’ve been unsuccessful over the many years in the past,” Staver said, referring to previous congressional efforts to pass anti-discrimination laws covering LGBTQ people. “But this is a way to slip it in under a so-called anti-lynching bill, and to then to sort of circle the wagon and then go for the [jugular] at some time in the future.”

Not surprisingly, the SPLC considers Mat (One-T?) Staver’s group The Liberty Council to be a Hate Group. And you might recall that Staver defended God’s Own Filing Clerk Kim Davis, who refused to issue marriage licenses to the ‘mos.  Human Rights Campaign spokemans Stephen Peters told Newsweek on Thursday “Their attempt to remove LGBTQ people from an anti-lynching bill demonstrates their animosity [toward them].”  It’s pretty axiomatic that wherever there’s a law that will protect people who are not straight, white, cisgendered, Mat Staver and Liberty Counsel will be there opposing it.

Now, we can speculate all day why the theocrats would want to exclude the ‘mos from a lynching bill, but the point is they are on record now for being in favor of lynching people for Jeebus.  And to quote our pal Bluegal, “That’s not scriptural.”

This is the sort of bigot that prznit Wall of Merde is enabling and he is a measure of the damage that this administration is doing to your country. Knocked you back to the 1970s IMO.

Is lynching condoned by Sharia Law? Asking for a right-wing evangelical nutjob.

I can think of some very specific applications for lynching, when the revolution gets here.

My Pappy told me one shouldn’t make up one’s mind about someone else until you have walked about in their moccasins — or in this case — their gender. I propose that all the men (I have never heard of a female lyncher) in The Liberty Council have their dangly bits cropped and come back after an appropriate length of time to see how they feel differently gendered human beings should be treated.

Since I’m a pessimist, I wouldn’t make their opinions binding.

Ohhhh…If you want to feel like shit for an afternoon, check out the Lynching In America project by the Equal Justice Initiative. This focuses specifically on racial terrorism. Turns out lynchings have been family affairs, and much of it sparked by the supposed need to “defend the honor” of white women. Women’s roles in lynchings tend to be the catalyst and the cheerleader ‘standing by her man’. https://lynchinginamerica.eji.org/

Hmmm…from what I learned in Sunday School, and confirmation classes, Jebus and his 12 buddies wandered around preaching for 3 years. No wives, no girlfriends, and you can’t tell me none of ’em ever got horny during that time. Then, at the Last supper, Jebus told ’em, “Love ye, one another, even as I have loved you.” So, he and his buddies were obviously gay. Oh–may all the thyble-bumpers tear their hair out, digesting THAT piece of logic!
