So Much Winning, Part Infinity

Shut Down Day 15

“Buenos snowshoes!”

  • At a meeting with Congressional leaders, Prznint Stupid threatened to keep the government shutdown for “months or even years” until he gets the funding hostage money he wants for the Tortilla Curtain.
  • Comrade Stupid is also considering declaring a state of national emergency to go around Congress to get the funds. Will it work? Opinions Differ!
  • Walking termite buffet Mike Pence and other 4th Reich appointees are getting $10,000 pay raises because the shutdown caused a pay freeze to lapse. (Fun side note: Pence says that he will not accept the pay raise, “during the shutdown.” Very carefully parsed, innit?)
  • As you probably already know, Comrade Stupid cancelled the scheduled 1.9 percent raise for most federal workers.
  • Meanwhile, over 800,000 federal workers will not receive paychecks until the government is reopened.

And I think that is the current state of play. Of course all the services we expect and need are stopped too, and soon SNAP will run out of funds and people, especially children and the elderly will run out of food.

  1. when SNAP funding ends we may get families rioting in the streets for food.

I’m trying to remember the last time we HAD food riots in America.

The best I’m coming up with is the food riots across the southern states when the Confederacy was starving by 1863-64.

I really hate to say this, but there ain’t gonna be any riots. Americans are pussies, for the most part, far too complacent, or too cowed by forces they don’t fully comprehend, except that if they DO protest, they are likely to be arrested, fired from their job, and ostracized from their friends and/or community. Hell, you might even get run over and killed by some fan of fascism.

No, things are going to come to the point where when we finally DO riot, it will be too late, and troops will have permission to use deadly force. I know, it’s impossible to predict the future, but that’s my take on what’s one scenario, among many. All I can say is this going badly, and will only get worse, before there’s any semblance of order, justice, or plain civility.

Trump’s calling it a strike, which is the fucking opposite of his shutdown. The workers aren’t striking, you malignant piece of crap; you’re shutting them down. It’s not a strike when Management does it, you’re withholding their payment for the work they’re doing.

Honestly, when will this end? I want the Dems to stand absolutely rock solid on this. I want Trump to fold and I want everyone to understand that their president is causing their hardship. He owns it.

Sister Nancy is going to end up not only fighting Trump’s intransigence and the GOP’s general mean-spirited hostility to the poors, but also the Dem party “centrist triangulators” who just can’t seem to help themselves in failure to see the need to just throw the ball at their fucking heads once and for all.
    Here’s Illinois Rep Cheri Bustos, the new chair of the DCCC, just yesterday, bobbing and weaving her way to rationalizing the need to give away the store;

I believe that when we are looking at many issues, whether it pertains to rebuilding our country and passing what I hope will be a trillion-dollar infrastructure package to rebuild our roads and bridges…and waterways and rural broadband, or whether it has to do with lowering the cost of healthcare, including the exorbitant prices of prescription drugs, whatever it is.

What I’m saying is, we can have a starting point, that we can go in there and say, “This is ideally what we would like to see happen,” but in the end we might have to give or take a little bit. It’s just the way the world works. It’s the way our families work. I’m a mother of three sons, and it’s the way that I work with my husband and with my children. It’s just the way the world works. And why should we in Congress, in this building, in the U.S. Capitol, be any different than the way anything else works in this world?

Trump following Putin’s orders? Coulter and Limabaugh flying cover for him? What are the odds?
