Bet me that cat will be telling the grandkittens about this day, it will go down in song and legend!
The one that almost got away.
Reminds me of one of my cats, long ago. She was an affectionate sweetheart, would come curl up in your lap and purr, even while we were eating.
In hindsight it was a well-played long con, because one night my roommate and I were enjoying a steak dinner, she got up in his lap, stood up, snatched the steak from his plate and tore-ass outta the room with it.
We were too helpless with laughter and the sheer balls on that cat to do anything about it. She won, she got the steak.

I’ll see that and raise you a deterrence FAIL.
When I was a high-schooler, my family would (on some nights) cook enough meat for everyone to eat at supper, plus a piece or two to snack on later that night. As there was no microwave (and we didn’t want to refrigerate them right away), we left these extra portions on the dining-room table.
After my first cat made herself an expert at stealing these snack pieces, we decided to sprinkle them with semi-hot homemade salsa. At first, that worked beautifully. When she stole and ate the first piece of spiked meat, she immediately dashed back to her water bowl, to cool her now hot mouth. Unsurprisingly enough, she stopped stealing the food.
For about two weeks.
Eventually, she got not only got used to the salsa, but also started licking it off the meat after she stole it!
Kitty found out Whiskas dry cat food isn’t the only item on the menu.
Beef! It’s what’s for dinner.
