Mississippi Race Concludes Today

Cindy Hyde-Smith Wants The South To Rise Again

So today is the final election in Mississippi between notorious Civil War enthusiast Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith and Democrat Mike Espy, who happens to be black. And because anytime a large group of white nationalists , er, Republicans are gathered, Comrade Stupid must be lurking about somewhere

The president held two rallies with Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith on the eve of a runoff to ensure his base turns out to vote in a race that was expected to be much less competitive just weeks ago. Democrats saw an opening to potentially contest the race after a controversial remark the Republican senator made about being first in line to attend a “public hanging.”

One hopes that they gave Cindy the front row seat for the lynching, as is her custom.

“It is such a critical election tomorrow, we have got to go out,” Hyde-Smith said. “What’s on the ballot tomorrow is not just my name, Cindy Hyde-Smith, it is your conservative values.”

Why are the dogs barking?

That state has defined stupidity and racism for nearly two centuries. I hope they break from their past, but I suspect they won’t.

Two best books on Mississippi are on the same subject, the riots in Oxford in 1962 when James Meredith integrated University of Mississippi:

Walter Lord’s “The Past That Would Not Die,” which really shows how that state was (and still is) permanently jammed in the 1860s, both before and after the Civil War. Written in 1964, but still good.

“American Insurrection” is a more modern book, and one of its foci is the Mississippi National Guardsmen who were federalized to support the integration of Ole Miss. All these guys were white, local, kids, opposed to integration, and sent in to stand against their friends and neighbors. But they upheld their oaths, did their duty, and got Meredith in. Among the Guardsmen was the son of the race-baiting Governor Ross Barnett.

And ugh, the squeals of glee from the Boss Hog in the White House if Hyde-Smith wins will be excrutiating.

Your “conservative values”.. That are predatory, racist, sordid, outdated, un-Christian, and – treasonous!

Well, Cindy is still wondering why they’re not picking her cotton, washing her dishes, shining her husband’s shoes, and teaching her son the uh….facts of life.
