Don’t Run Away, Run Forward

Jefferson Beauregard ‘Stonewall’ Sessions III Theme Song?

All the morning email thingies mention that Democrats should be worried about Latinx turnout in the 2018 Pie Fight. It seems that they are not engaged and unenthused, and I wondered why until I read this report in the NYTimes:

“Sanctuary attacks pack a punch,” says a four-page memorandum, prepared by the liberal Center for American Progress and the centrist think tank Third Way, that has been shared at about a dozen briefings for Democrats in recent weeks. The New York Times obtained a copy of the memo, whose findings are based on interviews and surveys conducted over the summer.

Many of the Republican attacks use misleading language and employ overblown claims about the dangers of immigrants. But the fear-based appeal demonstrates how Mr. Trump has overcome months of negative headlines about his hard-edge immigration policies to make the issue a potentially profitable one as Republicans try to preserve their slim Senate majority and defy projections that they will lose the House.”

And how should the Dims respond to this, according to Third Wave, you ask?

“Democrats, the strategists who prepared the memo advised, could neutralize the attacks if they responded head-on. But they should spend “as little time as possible” talking about immigration itself, and instead pivot to more fruitful issues for Democrats like health care and taxation.”

Shorter Third Way: RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!

And therein lies the Latinx enthusiasm gap, and creeping fascism, methinks.

Sure, it makes sense to stress some issues more than others depending on the election/district in question, but there’s a difference between doing that and running away from immigration altogether.

The Dims should offer an alternative to the racism of Hair Füror and the GOP, and not go silent. Fleeing from one of the most important issues of today isn’t the way to show backbone and leadership, and if you want to show a stark difference between the two major parties, then this is a real issue.

When the chips are down, the New Confederacy is always going to default to the wedge issue of racism but this time around they are committing human right abuses. It’s no longer theoretical, they are putting kiddies in concentration camps.

Don’t run-away Dims, run forward.

I’m surprised they didn’t advise adopting a hard line stance on immigration to appeal to the disgruntled GOP voter who could change the electoral map in the D’s favor if only the Democrats wouldn’t be such Democrats.

Osiris Opto – Fear not, it is still early. By mid.2020, the hard line on immigration will be the ‘radical left’ position, whereas the moderates will only demand camps for suspected immigrants. You heard it here, first.

Shriveled ball-sack-faced weeping Joe Leiberman, there’s a profile in leadershit for these times.
Doing the opposite of what third way recommends is always and only the right thing to do.
