Ayatollah Ted Is In Real Trouble

“I know which one I would vote for, I must say”

You want to be impressed? I found this clip from Beto O’Rourke impressive:

And I guess others did too.

Ted Cruz Fan Club

I don’t want to put the cart before the horse’s ass, but if Ted Cruz has Republicans proudly wearing tee shirts as Republicans for Beto, I think he has a problem. Ayatollah Ted’s base skews old and white, and that’s about it; if he’s losing them, he’s lost the race.

Vanity Fair has a long article up on Beto, in which they postulate that he could end up being a Goat Rodeo contender at some point in the future.

Yesterday I had a close encounter with a car that had a Trump/MAGA bumper sticker on the back. Just had to see who the driver was when I passed it. True to form, the driver was really old (maybe 75?) and white.

To change the subject, yes. Another possible goat in a future rodeo is Cyrus Habib, the Lt. Gov. of Warshington state. Preet Bharara interviewed him on his podcast this week, and actually asked Habib that question, who did not answer it yay or nay. I knew he is an impressive fellow, but I’d never heard him speak so long or so personally. You can listen here.

    O’Rourke is the real deal.
That kind of vibrant and extemporaneous clarity and eloquence is not something that can be faked.

There’s no small number of younger up-and-comers in today’s Dem party now showing this kind of promise, and at some point the Pelosis and Clintons and Schumers and yes, the Obamas of this world will have to either embrace this emerging energy or just get the fuck out of the way.
My fervent hope is that it’s not all too little too late.

It’s nice to see a rising Democrat younger than 60.

Take the core of that thing (without the music, without the pitch for funds) and you have a nice training video. For DNC, DLC, Democrat leadership and Democrat candidates this is a great example of a candidate just laying out his position and then detailing the background of his answer. The Dem candidate responses I that triangulate, try to piss off no one and avoid getting off the fence don’t get cheers like this guy did, both at his “the short answer is No” and at the end of his clarification.
Republican opposition will surely be looking over his stuff for some sound bit they can pick out of a speech, somewhere, that sounds like he hates puppies, but someone got this whole clip out there for people to see and hear, so this one would be tough to mine for out of context meme bait.
And it is in Texas. See Dem candidates, see DLC, it can be done. You don’t have to pretend that you don’t have an opinion or a stand.
