The Lyin’, The Witch Hunt, and the Wardrobe: Round 2!

“I hear Curaçao is nice.”

The Wall Street Journal reports that Paul Manafort attempted to negotiate a deal with Robert Mueller for his upcoming trial in Washington.

The negotiations fell apart, no one (except M&M) knows why.

This implies that Manafort does not have a sekrit pardon from Comrade Stupid, after all! Whoddathunkit! Just the hint that he might be negotiating a plea bargain with Mueller should push the mango-hued shitgibbon into a poo-flinging rage, so we got that to look forward to.

If Mueller already knows everything that Paulie-the-Python Coat has to offer, then this should be just another white-collar crime prosecution. Which, you know, also means that the secrets of Oleg Deripaska, the Russian oligarch who was paying Manafort for “his consulting” might be Amazon Prime’ing some nice polonium tea to his prison cell even as we write this.

500 Quatloos says that Manafort will take whatever plea bargain he can before the trial reaches the Jury Room.

Why can’t we just remand him to prison for the 240-year sentence for his first trial, and just skip the second one, sparing us taxpayers from the expense and drama? Once I take out the trash, I’m not inclined to go out and remove it from the can, and then dump it back.

    • There was an old old lottery commercial in NY back in the day, which featured people fantasizing about what they’d do; one was “I’d buy the NY Yankees, just so I could fire Billy Martin. Then I’d hire him back jus so I could FiRE him again!”

Making a plea bargain is different from a plea agreement where cooperation is offered. This is the difference between what Cohen got and what Flynn got. I don’t believe for a minute that Manafort offered to do a Flynn type deal and cooperate. If anything, he merely tried to plead out his remaining charges and reduce his sentence for what he’s already been convicted on, which Mueller has little or no incentive to do, which is also why it didn’t work. We also have to realize that this story is coming entirely from leaks on Manafort’s side since the Mueller team would never leak this. It’s also quite possible that there was no negotiation at all and this “leak” is aimed solely at Comrade Stupid to trawl for a pardon by tweet.
