The Freedom of the Press (for Fascists)

Trump Time!

Because having a memory is the Left’s superpower, we know that when an imperial prznintcy comes along it can bite you in the ass when the office changes hands. The Republicans, on the other hand, having the memory of a goldfish, do not recall a time before The Russian Usurper.

And with that lead-in, let’s turn to the latest Ipsos poll:

“Some of the limits of public support for freedom of the press are made stark with a quarter of Americans (26%) saying they agree “the president should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in bad behavior,” including a plurality of Republicans (43%). Likewise, most Americans (72%) think “it should be easier to sue reporters who knowingly publish false information.”

This is starkly the most un-American divide that I can recall.

So while Wingnuttia longs to pwn the Libs, and especially longs for Trump to shut down everything but Fox News and the junkie Limbaugh, they would howl like a beagle in a vacuum cleaner factory if the next Dim preznint would shut down Fox News and the junkie Limbaugh.

They have no problems with actual First Amendment violations coming from Trump but they claim that private entity Facebook can violate Alex Jones’ First Amendment rights.

You call it a bad memory. I call it hypocrisy. Some of it comes from tribal allegiance. Some of it comes from self-interest. Regardless of the source, it adds up to IOKIYAR

It’s not that they have a memory problem. There is no intent of dealing fairly with others when it comes to grabbing and holding power. They recognizes the hypocrisy of one set of rules for them and another for you, but don’t care. The plan for that fraction of society has always been to change the rules to favor themselves. A free press that accurately reports their actions is truly their enemy
