The Death of the Media: Today in History

The so-called Fairness Doctrine was cancelled, the rise of Rush Limbaugh, Hate Radio, and Fox News followed shortly thereafter.

As MPS has said since the very beginning, if we can reform our Media, we can reform our politics.

Id be happy if the FCC conditioned network TV to separate news from entertainment. Also, a pony.

Yeah Redhand, but we don’t really have Public Affairs programming any more. Panel chat shows with shouty people (sorry CNN) do not inform people of the issues. It’s just punditry.

The Fairness Doctrune only applied to broadcast media networks so if somehow it were to be resurrected, it would not affect cable news or internet-based media (e.g. YouTube, InfoWars, etc.). The big four news networks (ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS) are not the problem. The first three are mainly infotainment or local news. The Fairness Doctrine would impact hate radio but that’s about it. The government woud have to broaden the jurisdiction of the FCC first then bring in a modernized doctrine. But the GOP would literally need to b reduced to a rump party before there was any chance of that happening.

I’m aware of what both of you are saying but we have to do something substantial to erase the culture of lies that the current Administration is popularizing. I am in favor of expanded FCC jurisdiction, although I also appreciate that the blow back from the GOP will be ferocious.

      I agree Redhand.

One of the many things that frustrates me so much is that we let these things be controlled by rules and regulations, and as soon as there is a changing of the guard, those rules and regulations get thrown out. If only we have an elected body that could actually, you know, PASS LAWS we could probably get some of our wish list enacted.

Everyone must vote these bums out.

As long as there is Faux” NEWS” the trumpeters in the village will tune in, absorb & react as their King sez to. If the king sez CNN & other media are fake news & deranged & enemy of the people, his Fans, esp the ones that are gun humpers will come unglued, dangerous & defensive.
The king will come out smelling like a rose tho. He will NEVER be held accountable or responsible for ANYTHING. That’s been proven.
