From the Reliable Sources email thingie:

On Sunday’s show, I asked Brian Karem if he has any regrets about his outburst at last Thursday’s W.H. briefing. “Come on,” he said to Sarah Sanders, “you’re a parent! Don’t you have any empathy for what these people are going through?”

“Um, I have an apology to make,” Karem told me. “I apologize to every human being who’s had to suffer, who has less than I do,” that “I did not come to the table sooner. I’m sorry to those people for waiting so long and holding my temper. I’m sorry that I am extremely angry with this administration that has lied to me, continues to lie to me.”

We went back and forth, and Splinter thought I was too tough on Karem… NewsBusters didn’t think so… Judge for yourself, here’s the segment…

OK, I’ll judge!

Brian Stelter, you failed. You failed all of us, and you failed your fellow journalists. This administration lies to us, not just now and then, but everyday, all day. Elmira Gantry Huckabeee-Sanders is a liar. Her office is right out of 1984’s MiniTruth, it is pure propaganda. There is no denying that.

You, Brian Stelter, came across as a boot-licking toady, asking a colleague to apologize to the very people that calls your profession an enemy of the people. And then trying to shame Karem by showing us all the Pravda, er, Fox News clip, where they exploit him, you endorsed Fox News’ agitprop.

You may think that was being objective, but what it was was being complicit.

(Edited to make more clear it is Brian Stelter who is the problem, not Brian Karem.)

I am assuming that the “Brian” you’re chastising is Brian Stelter, and not Brian Karem. I was a little confused at first.

No reporter should have any reason to apologize for calling out this administration and their mouthpieces. As been written numerous times, if they don’t- they are complicit in the lies.
I wish more reporters would work in conjunction to either force the spokes-mouths to admit and own their bullshit or call them on it and refuse to let up.

  4. This why I get a daily one-half hour news fix from Reuters, followed by another news fix, as long as I can stand it, from English Aljazeera. The world is one scary, fucked-up place; but you’re uninformed, you can become complacent. From complacent, it is not a big leap to complicit.
