Here we go again

(Stolen from Scissorhead @Glitterbug on the electic tweeter)

This keeps happening:

The fourth fatal mass school shooting of 2018 claimed 10 lives today in Santa Fe, Texas.

  • Nine students and a teacher were killed at Santa Fe High School, located 30 miles southeast of Houston.
  • Another 10 were wounded, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a press conference.
  • Explosive devices were found on and around campus, Santa Fe Independent School District police chief Walter Braun said today.
  • A 17-year old suspect is in custody. He had written about wanting to commit suicide, Abbott said, but instead gave himself up.
  • A shotgun and .38 caliber revolver were recovered from the shooter, Abbott said. Those guns were owned by the suspect’s father, who obtained them legally.

The big picture: The Yutes of Today are expecting the worst. We continue to let them down.

As Santa Fe student Paige Curry told local TV station ABC-13:

Reporter: “Was there a part of you that was like, ‘This isn’t real. This could not happen at my school?'”
Curry: “There wasn’t.”
Reporter: “Why so?”
Curry: “It’s been happening everywhere. I’ve always felt it would eventually happen here too.”

And here’s Prznint Stupid offering us consolation:

Your image of the garbage truck says it all. But another weird was one where a MAGA dude showed up carrying a sidearm and an American flag just because why not be a real a**hole. And another person berated him saying he should be saying prayers. WTF?

Excuse me, it’s far past time to bring it own home. I don’t care if dad obtained the guns legally or not; he didn’t secure them from his obviously disturbed son. Jail time for daddy dearest is called for.

The Parkland kids dealt a body blow to the NRA, but it wasn’t enough. Some major companies like Dick’s made an effort to stop carrying some guns, and others were called out for their relationships with the NRA. So there is a fight to be made and won.

But the NRA has billions of dollars backing it up. And they have tendrils that wrap around so many government and Republican Administration people, so many businesses, and many other organizations as well. They are masters of propaganda and deception. And their loyal followers are vocal and unafraid to bully and run over anyone who challenges them.

I’m not even sure if a new Democratic Senate and House could make it change. The NRA is a many-headed Hydra and until we can figure out how to cut it at its roots, the heads will keep growing back. I don’t know how we fix that.
