Republican Rep. Patrick Meehan, he of the tortured mash note, who previously said that he would leave at the end of his term has decided to speed up that schedule to today. And because he’s a mensch like former Rep. Farenthold, Meehan has vowed to repay the treasury for the
hush money, er, severance pay to his staffer when she fled his office:
“I will pay $39,000.00 to the U.S. Treasury to reimburse for the severance payment that was made from my office account,” Meehan said in a statement. “That payment will be made within 30 days of my resignation from the House of Representatives. I did not want to leave with any question of violating the trust of taxpayers.”
But not so much for his sacred wedding vows. Go figure.
Anyway, this means that Pennsylvania has two open seats and Democrat Gov. Tom Wolf can call a special election or elections, depending on when already announced resigner Rep. Charlie Dent wants his cheese sandwich and roadmap.
For you pony-betting types:
- Meehan’s district has a PVI of D+1
- Dent’s district has a PVI of R+20
So, the potential for another morale blow for Wingnuttia before the 2018 Pie Fight is there, so it will be a race/races to watch.
