Will Kevin Williamson Become The Patron Saint of Hangmen?

You will have your rapist’s baby

The current talking points about right-wing Kevin Williamson being martyred for thought crimes and having his Free Speech stripped away by Liberal Fascism is really taking on a life of its own.

Notorious plagiarist Mr. Meghan McCain, er, Ben Domenech, is raising the defense at The Federalist:

“This story is a predictable continuation of the left’s ownership not just of media but indeed of all institutions…. Eich, Damore, Williamson and others are subject to blacklists and HR reports and firing in every arena of industry and culture. If you have wrongthink, you will not be allowed for long to make your living within any space the left has determined they own – first the academy, then the media, then corporate America, and now the public square.”

If one  thinks that suggesting that women who have abortions should be executed (seriously!), then one is a terrorist. That is beyond (regrettable) public square misogyny, and is Christian Terrorism (I’m adding Christian because what is notable about all these men rising to Williamson’s defense are their Christian theocratic beliefs).

Now, no one has written a law that now makes Williamson unemployable, so no: his Free Speech is not taken away. Williamson can continue to say whatever extreme theocratic nonsense he wants, but he has to own the blow-back for saying it, which includes getting fired.

And Ben, you know something about being fired. And you know that there will be another wingnut welfare job for Williamson elsewhere; maybe the Koch Brothers who allegedly keep The Federalist afloat can find a desk for him, just as they did for you.

Arguing that Williamson has the right to publish his heinous, misogynistic, women-killing beliefs in The Atlantic takes away editorial agency from them. Williamson does not have a right to do that any more than Dan Savage has a right to publish in The Federalist.

If you are saying we should just have a conversation about executing women for having an abortion, then I could just as easily say we should have a conversation about executing Republicans for being traitors. Yours is an intellectually dishonest position, Ben, and even you know it.

There are over 128,000,000 adult women in the USA; over 25% of whom will have abortions sometime during their lives; which makes over 32,000,000 women. Hanging all of them is an idea so evil and absurd that I must ask if Williamson is a monster or a blowhard. I vote blowhard, but monster remains a possibility.

And by the way, killing 32 million would outdo both Hitler and Stalin, and challenge Mao.

I vote monster. Williamson is a man at home in the world of words and ideas. The only respect I’m willing to pay him is the respect of accepting that he knows what he’s saying, and means it.

However it is an intellectually honest position RE Republicans and treason.

Did the right ever think that maybe, just maybe, their ideas and thoughts are so outdated and heinous that their audience is diminishing because people don’t and won’t tolerate their hate speech anymore?
    Nah, couldn’t be.

If a woman prays for a miscarriage and gets one, does that make her and God murderers who should be executed? Hmmm.

btw, my Mom had 7 miscarriages before she got her pair of live births, then she got her tubes tied. It was 1970 and she needed permission from some hospital board for the procedure.

      Kathywompus –

Similar story here, too, which is why there is such an age gap between me and the other ‘Grains.

(8-Grain told me of at least 10 miscarriages before I came along; she figured that they stopped trying!)

I’m the flip side. Pregnancy #2. Baby sister, #9 is 11 years younger. I got most of the “daddy” experience with none of the responsibility 🙂

Republicans, NAZIs and Confederates are Traitors; enemies of the American People, enemies of the American Way of Life, and if not taken out behind the barn and summarily executed, need be rounded up, at gunpoint, stuffed into cattle-cars and “escorted” to reservations somewhere out in the hinterlands. Preferably outside the asteroid belt. We shouldn’t be afraid to call a spade a spade.

Frankly I’m ecstatic to read this. The God-hates-fags, all-your-uterus-are-belong-to-us shit is exactly what makes the mainstream population see the fundies for the scary alien nutcases they are. Williamson is an extreme case. The more wingnuts stand forth top voluntarily tar themselves with that brush in public, the better.

If they all want to go on record as believing that a call for the hanging of 32 million women is just a routine difference of opinion which The Atlantic had no possible grounds for frantically dissociating itself from, as if Williamson had merely spoken out against renaming a post office or in favor of adding a new stop sign on Main Street — that’s fine with me. Let America see where these people think the Overton window is.

These executions they speak of. Do they involve beheadings in the public square or something even worse? And will bread and wine be served?

Williamson spoke of hangings. 32 million would use up a lot of rope, though. We might need to import it from China, assuming Trump wouldn’t put tariffs on it.

I’m sure there would be refreshments available at movie-theater-candy prices. Fundamentalist ranting would be served up for free.

Domenech is silent about the actual Sinclair Broadcasting use of Newspeak, and their ownership of shittons of TV stations.

  10. Redhand says:

The “religious right” really represents the theocratic wing of Republican neo-fascism, in the same way that the Catholic Church was a cheerleader for the Franco Regime in Spain. As for Williamson’s loss of “free speech,” it serves as “white noise” for real threats like the enforced RW newspeak of Sinclair Broadcasting.

Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for the conservative right-to-lifers to condemn Ann Coulter for suggesting that the National Guard at the border ought to be armed and authorized to shoot one [an “illegal”] and send a message to the rest.”

I guess this is just another conservative opinion that needs to be aired in Murrica’s “marketplace of ideas.” I mean, what’s wrong with advocating state authorized murder if it keeps our country white?

      Redhand – well said.

    • RWW says:

I heard The Coultergeist’s sound bite on this and she actually further nuanced her point into something much worse: “…shoot one to encourage the rest…” She wants mass slaughter at the border and to blame the other side for causing it.

      • Redhand says:

She’s an anorexic, racist hag who gets off on violent fantasies. Shock is her only stock in trade; before long I suspect she will compliment Williamson’s calls public hanging of women with her siren shrieks about crucifying “illegals” at the border as a “warning” to others.
What is most depressing is that people like her can make a nice living spewing such hate. I wish she was an exception but she’s not, just further to the right than most on the wingnut spectrum of racism, hate, and complete intolerance of people who are “not our kind.”
