The Death of the Media
The Reliable Sources email thingie tells us more about the egregious Sinclair on-air editorializing of FAKE NEWS!!1!
First, the official statement from Sinclair:
“The promos served no political agenda, and represented nothing more than an effort to differentiate our award-winning news programming from other, less reliable sources of information,” the company said.
Second, the leaked memo from Sinclair management to their upset
“I know many of you and your stations are now in the media spotlight after the launch of our corporate news journalistic responsibility promotional campaign. There is a lot of noise out there about our company right now, and what is lacking in that analysis is something we constantly preach; context and perspective.
“The critics are now upset about our well-researched journalistic initiative focused on fair and objective reporting. For the record, the stories we are referencing in this campaign are the unsubstantiated ones (i.e. fake/false) like “Pope Endorses Trump” which move quickly across social media and result in an ill-informed public. Some other false stories, like the false “Pizzagate” story, can result in dangerous consequences. We are focused on fact-based reporting. That’s our commitment to our communities. That’s the goal of these announcements: to reiterate our commitment to reporting facts in a pursuit of truth. A new Monmouth University Poll out today says Americans are concerned, in fact, 77 percent of the respondents believe “fake news” is reported at least occasionally in mainstream media. This is a concern that is shared by Democrats, Republicans and Independents. This poll underscores the importance of our journalistic responsibility effort. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of accuracy and fact checking.”
…and it goes on and on from there. The CNN Money story is a good read if you want to get up to date on this story. One new twist in the story is in the newsletter, but I’m sure CNN will have it somewhere today: one of the stations refused to participate in the propaganda:
|— Fox 47, a Sinclair station in Madison, Wisconsin, has decided not to air the promos. The station took a whack at management with this tweet on Monday evening…|
And of course, Comrade Stupid loves the new Pravda-esque developments:
So funny to watch Fake News Networks, among the most dishonest groups of people I have ever dealt with, criticize Sinclair Broadcasting for being biased. Sinclair is far superior to CNN and even more Fake NBC, which is a total joke.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 2, 2018
Fox and Sinclair adulates Trump, he gushes over them, and his dead-enders love him —and them— even more. We’ve talked about the feed-back loop before, this is more of it.
UPDATE: Tiger Beat on the Potomac (thanks Charie!) morning email thingie:
“FROM IAN KULLGREN in MORNING SHIFT: “The president of the International Cinematographers Guild on Monday criticized Sinclair Broadcasting Group’s for requiring local anchors to read pro-Trump text on air — the latest backlash after a video went viral last weekend showed dozens of local news stations reading the same paragraph of conservative propaganda. … SAG-AFTRA, which represents news anchors, was much more tepid. In an email to Morning Shift, a spokeswoman made a point of not criticizing Sinclair directly.”
