Grifters Gotta Grift

Rubbed down to a nubbin.

As Prznint Stupid has proven he is a stable genius beyond a shadow of a doubt, Axios notes, what with Social Media and Faceberg in the news that he has his keen intellect focused, bigly,  on… Amazon?

“Trump tells people Amazon has gotten a free ride from taxpayers and cushy treatment from the U.S. Postal Service.”

“Hey,” Comrade Trump didn’t say, “getting a free ride from taxpayers is MY GRIFT!”

“The whole post office thing, that’s very much a perception he has,” another source said. “It’s been explained to him in multiple meetings that his perception is inaccurate and that the post office actually makes a ton of money from Amazon.”

“Axios’ Ina Fried notes: The Postal Service actually added delivery on Sunday in some cities because Amazon made it worthwhile.”

But none of this sounds like Comrade Prznint Stupid whose only policies reflect himself or his grifting. So why is he so focused on Amazon? Oh, wait:

“Trump also pays close attention to the Amazon founder’s ownership of The Washington Post, which the president views as Bezos’ political weapon.”

BINGO!

Comrade Trump only understands tangible things (brick-and-mortar stores, paper-based mail and so on), so Facebook? Not so much. (except that it did give him his election with a boost from Russia, even though he thinks that is a HOAX!!1!) So, you know, what’s the worry about Faceberg?

Back to Axios:

“A source who’s spoken to POTUS: “He’s wondered aloud if there may be any way to go after Amazon with antitrust or competition law.”

“Trump’s deep-seated antipathy toward Amazon surfaces when discussing tax policy and antitrust cases. The president would love to clip CEO Jeff Bezos’ wings. But he doesn’t have a plan to make that happen.”

OK, so a couple of things there to note which should set off alarm bells. 1) Comrade Prznint is aiming for a political enemy and seems to be musing for a way for the Federal Government to do his bidding and B) dontcha just think some of this is Stupid’s jealousy that Bezos is the richest man in the world (currently)?

Not that I’m a big fan of Amazon, but nobody tell Small Hands Magoo that it might not be wise to pick a fight with someone who has the financial resources to crush his bubble-shaped orange ass.

      • Something something something about ‘picking fights with someone who buys ink by the barrel’; and those barrels come real cheap online!

tinyhands has a kernel of truth about Amazon, they ARE fucking over America, mainly by providing a conduit for Chinese intellectual property theft.

All those small bidness men and women in the Great Heartland who have come up with a good idea, start making it here in the USbygodOfA and start selling it online, promptly find that the Big A suddenly puts cheaper knockoffs from China ahead of them in the searches.

Amazon facilitates IP theft on a massive, industrialized, nay automated industrialized scale, and it ain’t just Boeing and GM who suffer.

Lets just hope that Bezos doesn’t get a hankering fro fast food, and starts swotting up those companies too, otherwise you may indeed wake up in the hell where “In the future, ALL restaurants are Taco Bell!”

t-Rump has hated Bezos for ages; there has to be much envy there, plus ownership of the WaPo, of course. He’s threatened to punish Amazon’s alleged “free ride” on sales taxes for ages, too. But he just shows how goddamned stupid he is to shoot his mouth off, so that articles like this appear It’s like Muslim Ban 2.0. Telegraph your improper purpose in advance, and you assure your own defeat in court.

    What a dumbass!

    • The thing is, the ban on online sales taxes is long, long LONG past it’s sell-by date: a sale is a sale is a sale. It IS a scam that not only Amazon but damned near every other online retailer faces. There’s no reason that a brick&mortar store should have to pay them and an online one shouldn’t.

(BTW, you know who DOES have to charge sales taxes on online purchases? Any company that has a physical presence in that jurisdiction…buy something online from Apple? Pay sales tax.)

It’s not a difficult problem to solve, either; sure there’s a buttload of taxing jurisdictions to keep track of…you know what’s good at doing shit like that? Computers. You know what Amazon’s good at? doing shit just like that with computers. I wouldn’t begrudge them a bit if they turned around and offered their merchants ‘Sales tax servicing’ at a fee.

This is not, btw, related to the concept of sales taxes being regressive; hell, they are, but the fact remains is that sales taxes still fund a lot of the shit we want where we live. FIxing that is a different discussion, one that involves removing sufficient Republicans from office that we can make this country a nice place to live…
