Somewhere, Kris (K?) Kobach is smiling

Tiger Beat on the Potomac (thanks Charlie!) tells us…

“The 2020 U.S. Census will include a controversial question about citizenship status, the Commerce Department announced Monday night, a move that sparked outrage from Congressional Democrats, civil rights groups and liberal state attorneys general.

“California Attorney General Xavier Becerra sued the Trump administration late Monday, arguing that the citizenship question would “botch” the census. “What the Trump Administration is requesting is not just alarming, it is an unconstitutional attempt to discourage an accurate Census count,” Becerra said in a statement.”

Clearly Hair Führer wants to A) rally the racists in Possum Hollar and 2) throw off an accurate census by discouraging immigrants (documented and otherwise) from reporting for fear it will be used by ICE.

This is likely to hit fast-growing blue states harder than The New Confederacy, but without a census report, I’m only guessing.

You doubt me? Trump’s 2020 Goat Rodeo committee has already sent out a fundraising e-mail to alert Possum Hollar that Hair Führer is doing something about the swarming, swarthy hordes scaling over his wall samples:

The President wants the 2020 United States Census to ask people whether or not they are citizens. In another era, this would be COMMON SENSE…but 19 attorneys general said they will fight the President if he dares to ask people if they are citizens. The President wants to know if you’re on his side.

But, you know, to add insult to injury, Wilbur Ross appears to have awakened!

“According to the statement from the Commerce Department, having such data will “permit more effective enforcement” of the Voting Rights Act. Monday’s announcement comes just days before the March 31 deadline, when the census questions are legally required to be finalized by.”

Yeah, the GOP is really concerned about enforcing the Voting Rights Act. That bit of BS is called “the tell” in gambling circles.

All of us who were born here should answer “No” if that question makes it to the official Census form. Imagine the confusion and consternation it would cause.
(I know, I know, it’s a federal offense to lie on the Census form. But I really wish I was not a citizen of this country in its current slide into fascism. But in order to effect any change, I have to be a good citizen, and vote them sumbitches out.)

The alternatives were counting immigrants as 3/5ths of a person or adding a question to the census asking whether the respondent “LOVES OUR DEAR LEADER” yes or no.

“More effective enforcement”? What the hell does that even mean to conservative wads of ass that struck down parts of the Voting Rights Act in Shelby County v. Holder (John Roberts’ “Day of Jubilee” saith Pierce), in 2013, freeing nine states to change their election laws without an OK from the feds? Seriously; what the hell does that even mean?

It means an ICE squad will be about two days behind the census takers.

They already know it would be a waste of time to stake out the polls.
