Maybe Carson Will Put It On Craig’s List?

Bennie ‘The Blade’ Carson

TPM/Livewire:

“A spokesperson for the Department of Housing and Urban Development told TPM Thursday that Secretary Ben Carson had ordered the agency to rescind an order for $31,561 worth of dining room furniture.”

I didn’t know you could cancel an order for custom-made furniture.

Anyway, D.C. readers, keep your eyes out for the listing. Maybe if you offer to pick it up you can get a deal! Be sure to haggle!

So where will they conduct their prayer breakfasts, without a suitable table & chairs? Remember, $5,000 won’t even buy you a decent office chair, so that custom dinette set sounds like a bargain!

  2. Wait, didn’t they already get the furniture? And this is the trump administration, of course you can cancel an order for custom made furniture, just complain it wasn’t done correctly and stiff the contractor. it’s The Art of the Steal in action, natch..

In government contracting you can. Courtesy some brain cells recalling my prior life as an in-house lawyer for a defense contractor. (Yes, really!) 48 CFR 52.249-2 – Termination for Convenience of the Government (Fixed-Price).

The contractor can submit a claim for recovery of costs up to the time of cancellation, so the taxpayers are stuck with the costs, not the contractor.
