“Abandon hope all ye who enter here.”
Who knew the Gates of Hell looked like a Florida suburb?
“Are you the Gatekeeper of Gozer?”
I am the key master.
That’s a misquote. I have a bilingual edition of the Divine Comedy with the Renaissance Italian and English on facing pages. Using the skills that went into my linguistics degree, I translated the italian for myself. The original phrase is
“Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’intrate”
, which is
“Abandon all hope, those who enter here.”
There’s quite a difference between “Abandon all hope…” and “Abandon hope, all ye…”.
I get snarky when people misquote great literature.
“GAWD, Ollie, this is BOOOORRRINGGG!! How long did the humans say we have to guard this joint?” “Dunno Stan. Til drumph is NOT the Fake Prez anymore?? *sides, I don’t got no damn watch”.
“Did they at least leave us some water & food??”
“Who knew the Gates of Hell looked like a Florida suburb?”

There is a large retirement community in my Florida town that locals tend to refer to as God’s waiting room. Usually when I hear someone say that I will interject with “or perhaps Satan’s?”
I often say that Florida is the home of the newly wed and the nearly dead, but I like Satan’s Waiting Room a lot!
