House minority leader Nancy Pelosi has spoken for a 6-hour, marathon speech on the Dreamers.
The House, unlike the Senate, does NOT have a filibuster, so this took a parliamentary maneuver not really seen before to pull it off.
“The House Historian’s office told CNN that Pelosi’s speech is the longest on record on the House floor, according to their records.
“Pelosi started speaking shortly after 10 a.m. ET, and was still speaking as of 4:40 p.m. ET.
“A source close to the California Democrat told CNN she thought of the idea overnight to speak for hours on the House floor. The source said she’s wearing four-inch-heels while delivering the speech and has only been sipping water.”
Four-inch heels! Since 10 AM! Reading inspiring profiles of the Dreamers, putting into the Congressional Record the stories of these amazing people before they are cruelly deported to lands as foreign to themselves as they would be to you and me.
We won’t go into the details of Pelosi’s speech (Jeebus, 6 hours!) but unlike a filibuster, she wasn’t trying to block legislation, she is trying to force Zombie-eyed Granny-starver Paul Ryan to giving a vote on DACA legislation.
UPDATE: 7 hours. She’s still going.
