The midwest are cheaper dates than I recall.
I grew up in Kansas, and the word ‘cornhole’ was slang for anal sex.
After several moves, I settled in Florida, and people were talking about corn hole tournaments. I didn’t know what to think. I later found out it was what we called bean bag toss.
That sign is from Boulevard Brewery, which started in Kansas City.
I’m not sure if it’s regional, or a timing thing.
Same for CT in the 80s. Whenever any of us in high school mentioned corn hole, it was a butt joke.
California, too. I never once heard it refer to a bean bag toss.
We definitely need a wall: from Eureka California to Eureka Montana!

The term corn hole being used for bean bag toss I believe emanates out of college tailgating culture where bean bag toss has gained a recent rise in popularity. Likely a case of frat boy humor leaking into the mainstream. There are tons of corn hole sets available on Amazon. Many for outrageous amounts of money. You can even get a Morehead (State) cornhole set.
I’m 77 and never heard it referring to a bean-bag toss; always the “San Francisco treat” variety. Also, never heard of “college tailgating culture” which sounds more like the latter than the former.
I’ve heard bean bag toss referred to as corn hole.
There is a variation Bowdler would approve, called “Coin Hole”, as in flipping a coin through a target rather than a bean bag, I guess.
