Amply be-chinned Mitch McConnell (emphasis mine):
“However should these issues not be resolved by the time the funding bill before us expires on February 8, 2018, assuming that the government remains open, it would be my intention to proceed to legislation that would address DACA, border security and related issues. It is also my intention to take up legislation regarding increased defense funding, disaster relief, and other important matters.”
According to Tiger Beat on the Potomac some senators are trying find a compromise to end the government shutdown.
The idea is to fund the government through Feb. 8 and get amply be-chinned Mitch to promise to vote on a stand-alone immigration bill before that.
Let’s twig through the many ways that this could go wrong!
- Mitch keeps his word (hahahaha, I jest!) and holds a vote.
- If the bill passed, would Zombie-eyed Granny-Starver Paul Ryan bring it up for a vote in the House? (No, this is what happened before when Rubio got burned.)
- If ZEGS does bring the immigration bill to a vote in the House, would the House Freedom Caucus kill it? (Hint: YES.)
- If an immigration bill should make it through Congress, would Comrade Racist veto it? (Hint: Possum Hollar must be appeased at all costs.)
Does anyone believe any Trump promise, anyway? No?
Anyway, this is why the Dims rightly think that any immigration reform must be attached to a must-pass legislation. Don’t fall for the very reasonable sounding idea of separating the issues.

I just like to hear the sound of the keyboard in the morning. It makes DW feel better if she thinks I’m working.
