Axios’ morning email thingie gives an elaborate and lavish tongue-bath to Comrade Stupid:
“President Trump enjoyed yesterday’s episode of “The Trump Show”: He played the president he sometimes fantasizes being — a post-partisan leader, bigger than Republican or Democrat, a celebrity dealmaker with no firm attachments, who’d overwhelm Washington through the sheer strength of statecraft and deal-cutting genius. A real Davos man. P.T. Barnum with a pulpit.”
Gag me with a spoon, as someone once said.
Anyway, nothing changed except Hair Führer’s positions, which changed with the breeze, sometimes flipping for a stand-alone DACA fix, other times flopping on comprehensive immigration reform. Amusingly, Comrade Stupid suggest bringing back bribes, er, earmarks to make negotiating sweeter. DRAIN THE SWAMP!!1!
Tiger Beat on the Potomac (thanks Charlie) morning email thingie:
— EVERYTHING CHANGED? NOTHING CHANGED AT ALL: Before the meeting, Congress was going to have to figure out the immigration-and-government funding deal. After the meeting, Congress has to figure out the immigration-and-government-funding deal. Before the meeting, Congress was split on immigration. And guess what? After the meeting, they were still split on immigration. This meeting was, by no means, a massive dynamic shift.
Here’s the pressure points that I see:
- The federal government runs out of cheddar on Jan. 19 unless Congress supplies some more money.
- Congress must approve a budget for the fiscal year.
- Budgets cannot use reconciliation (Republicans only tool in the toolbox), so Dims might filibuster the budget if they do not get something from Republicans.
- Republicans see legalizing the Dreamers as amnesty. Possum Hollar will bring Tiki torches to their town hall meetings if Republicans give in.
I don’t see how this concludes without a shut down.
And meanwhile, a federal judge in California issued an injunction against Hair Führer’s ending of DACA, and said that the administration must keep issuing permits to recipients.
