Our Media has returned to their usual obsession with the Racing Form rather than with content. I’m speaking of course about Oprah.
Every outlet I check in the morning is leading with Will Oprah Run stories and head scratchers, analysis of her chances and consultations with unnamed Friends of Oprah to read the tea leaves. One source went to far as to say that of course she has the Obamas on speed dial.
The media’s obsession with whether or not Oprah will run has totally buried what she said in her Golden Globes speech, which is a shame because it was so good and so damn powerful. And so many of us on the left have ignored her speech to focus on yet another (potential) celebrity billionaire to battle it out with the failed game show host. Save us, Oprah!
Oprah’s speech wasn’t about why she should run for office. It was about why other women need to run for office.
Oprah was telling girls to tell their own stories, to fight for their own values, and to fight injustices. She told them that they will be seen and heard and NOT be invisible. Oprah was not offering to save us, she was telling everyone (but especially women) to stand up and fix the problem yourself, get involved. No one is going to do it for you.
So of course it is now interpreted that Oprah is going to rush in and save us, which is exactly the opposite of what she was saying.
Eiron, the Goddess of Irony, is miffed at us today.
