What A Difference A Year Makes

The Official Trump Portrait is hung (but Trump isn’t)

We’re just a few days away from the one-year anniversary of the 2016 Russian Coup, and there’s something we need to note—for history’s sake—about what has changed:  Comrade Trump has transformed the GOP, it is now his Republican Party and the Republican establishment is essentially dead.

You want some proof? Let’s look at Virginia, where candidate-for-Governor Ed Gillespie, who used to the the RNC chief and worked for Poppy Bush (and you don’t get much more Establishment that that) is essentially running a White Nationalist campaign. Gillespie is showing us how open bigotry is now a feature of Trump’s GOP. If Gillespie wins, expect to see more racism; if he loses, expect to see more racism. The GOP has taken the crazy racist uncle out of the attic and put him in the parlor; they are not ashamed of it anymore and see no need to dogwhistle. Those sheets are blindingly white.

More proof: the Establishment Republicans who speak out against him are either out of politics or are on their way out the door. The Bush Crime Family, Corker, Flake, McCain (who is probably in his Last Hurrah, anyway), and others; they know that they cannot be re-elected unless they kiss Comrade Preznint’s ring if not his ass. Everyone else is silent or already actively supporting him.

One year after the exciting conclusion of the 2016 Goat Rodeo:

  • Half of Americans think Hair Führer is a racist (what’s wrong with the other half of the country? oh. wait.)
  • Half of Americans (55%) think that the Pussy Grabber is a sexist.
  • Two-thirds (65%) think Preznint Stupid has accomplished little to nothing.
  • More than two-thirds (70%) don’t think that he’s honest or trustworthy

I do get some solace in this polling. While the GOP might now be sliding into George Wallace territory, the rest of the country seems to be resisting (to some degree). I hope we can keep the resistance going, but I worry that we are all growing weary. It’s so hard to even remember the way things used to be.

“Gillespie running a white nationalist campaign.”
Proof that all they really care about is power.

But unless the half to two-thirds who don’t approve of Trump vote and vote D none of that opposition will matter.
