…says that Chief of Staff John Kelly has his face in his hands as Preznint Stupid took on the world of Sportsball in Jeebusland where I understand Sportsball might be even more precious than Jeebus.
Let’s begin at the Rally for Doomed Luther Strange:
President Donald Trump talked about the NFL for a portion of his time on stage at a rally in Huntsville, Alabama, on Friday night. He mentioned how penalties for hard hits are “ruining the game,” he said fans should leave the stadium if they see players kneeling for the anthem, and he said that he wishes owners would fire players who protested the anthem.
There’s a lot of video on that post so you can watch it in chunks (see what I did there). Comrade Stupid is many things, but mostly he’s stupid. His impromptu rant(s) trigged a tweet storm across, well, Twitter in support of Colin Kaepernick, who is getting a raw and very racist treatment from NFL owners.
But it is more than that. Let’s look at a specific quote:
“But you know what’s hurting the game more than that? When people like yourselves turn on television and you see those people taking the knee when they are playing our great national anthem. The only thing you could do better is if you see it, even if it’s one player, leave the stadium, I guarantee things will stop. Things will stop. Just pick up and leave. Pick up and leave. Not the same game anymore anyway.”
People like yourselves… and you see those people…
That was a white audience (people like yourselves), and let’s just say that those people is a not-subtle dogwhistle. And now he’s back in Charlottesville. Just like grifers gotta grift, racist Republicans gotta dogwhistle.
CNN’s Brian Stelter writing the Reliable Sources email thingie says:
When the president mentioned the national anthem protests at NFL games, I had a feeling he’d bring up the ratings. Sure enough, he said “the NFL ratings are down massively.” But instead of blaming the Nielsen declines (which have been modest, not massive) on Colin Kaepernick and co., he said, “the #1 reason happens to be that they like watching what’s happening… with yours truly.”
(And let’s just insert here that we note that Narcissist Comrade Stupid managed to make this all about himself. Do continue, Brian.)
Meaning politics/news. Still, he said the protests are “hurting the game,” and he said NFL owners should fire the players who participate. This is likely to trigger a brand new news cycle over the weekend…
— More: Trump, channeling “The Apprentice,” described what he’d like to hear from NFL owners: “Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, he’s fired. He’s fired!” Trump added: “For a week, [that owner would] be the most popular person in this country. Because that’s a total disrespect of our heritage. That’s a total disrespect for everything we stand for.” Here’s Sophie Tatum’s full story for CNNPolitics…
Heritage is another majik conjurin’ word in Jeebusland. I think we all know that by now. And now, some reaction. Here’s Jemele Hill, who is no stranger to Trump:
Prediction: Not one NFL owner, not Roger Goodell will say one word about what he said about Kaep or other NFL players. Not. A. One. https://t.co/tBv3Q5FZHp

USA Today columnist Christine Brennan, on CNN: “I think we’re going to see, potentially more NFL players taking a knee this weekend than we ever would have thought … maybe even college players, too.”
NRO’s David French: “I’d bet real money more players take a knee this week…”
And then this morning, Comrade Stupid went after basketball players, or more specifically the Golden State Warriors’ superstar Stephen Curry:
Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team.Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!

So, any takers wanna bet some quatloos on John Kelly’s face-palm?
