Facebook: ‘Be Connected. Be Discovered. Be Complicit’

“oops.”

Facebook, the behemoth social media platform preferred by rage uncles everywhere,  said that the company earned approximately $100K Ameros selling 3,000 ads on the platform as a political influence operation by a Russian-linked “troll farm.”

WaPo:

“Facebook officials reported that they traced the ad sales, totaling $100,000, to a Russian ‘troll farm’ with a history of pushing pro-Kremlin propaganda, these people said. A small portion of the ads, which began in the summer of 2015, directly named Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton, the people said, although they declined to say which candidate the ads favored. Most of the ads, according to a blog post published late Wednesday by Facebook’s chief security officer, Alex Stamos, ‘appeared to focus on amplifying divisive social and political messages across the ideological spectrum — touching on topics from LGBT matters to race issues to immigration to gun rights.’”

SWEET JEEBUS! Facebook’s ad targeting tools could have been used to spread FAKE NEWS!!1! with the intention of influencing the election!!1! Tell me it ain’t so!

The real question is whether Comrade Stupid’s campaign might/could have worked with Russian actors to target fake news to brainwash the simple people of Possum Hollar to vote for him, or at least against History’s Greatest Monster Hillary, Satan’s Mistress.

Faceberg, er, Facebook has (allegedly) given that data to special counsel Robert Mueller.

And this is one of the reasons why I will never do the Facebook thing… though the main reason is that I’m a ‘better dead than crimson’ kind of guy.
