Betsy DeVos Awards Herself a Participation Trophy

Ed. Secretary Betsy DeVos

Secretary of Religious Charter Schools and noted self-made heiress Betsy DeVos has decided that having protesters at every event makes her one of the kool kids, and tells the other kool kids at ALEC:

“This advocacy has led to some… let’s call it… “excitement” on the Left,” DeVos said Wednesday according to a transcript of her speech.

“You’re certainly no strangers to organized protests by defenders of the status quo. But, it’s the first time in recent history I’ve been to an event where the protesters aren’t necessarily here just for me!”

“But I consider the “excitement” a badge of honor, and so should you,” DeVos told the ALEC attendees. “Our opponents, the defenders of the status quo, only protest those capable of implementing real change. You represent real change.”

Methinks her badge of honor is more like a red badge of courage.

Well, if it helps anyone, ALEC wrote a great deal Kansas’s legislation for around 4 years before we got Gov. Brownback. They still sponsor legislator convocations a couple of times a year. So, if you think they’re sniffing around your state, that ought to be nipped in the bud. They’re very quiet in the beginning, but if you have Republican house and senate leaders, you’ll hear catchwords, and know they’ve been meeting. That’s when a person has to pay careful attention to legislative action, both in committees and on the floors.
    It’s always something…

ALEC is definitely a voice for change. However, that change would be for increasing authoritarian rule, voter suppression, denial of reproductive rights, destruction of unions and massive deregulation for big business.

Exactly. Not the change that most people want.
It’s probably just me, but I get the definite impression that ALEC wants to clean places out, then buy them for pennies on the dollar, then develop them in their own interests.

“…those capable of implementing real change.” I don’t see anything there about GOOD change.

Do you think Marie Antoinette felt the excitement was a badge of honor?
