When Budget Cuts = Y’all Qaeda Public Health Policy

The right to life ends at birth.

This has HHS Tom Price’s fingerprints all over it, with an assist from Mike Pence:

Trump administration suddenly pulls plug on teen pregnancy programs

The Trump administration has quietly axed $213.6 million in teen pregnancy prevention programs and research at more than 80 institutions around the country, including Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and Johns Hopkins University.

…Health officials say cutting off money midway through multiyear research projects is highly unusual and wasteful because it means there can be no scientifically valid findings. The researchers will not have the funds to analyze data they have spent the past two years collecting or incorporate their findings into assistance for teens and their families.

Because you know what will happen: as these researchers fold up shop, and no results are forthcoming, the fetus-fondlers will say that researchers found no results so Abstinence Education is the way to go! Or as Foster Friess said, “In my day, ‘gals’ put aspirin ‘between their knees.'”

$213M Ameros is chump change in the budget, so this is more about giving ammo to the gawd-botherers.

I think I’ve figured it out: they are going evil and stupid on ALL fronts so there is no unified resistance to them, as people are fractured by their particular interests. This allows them to fight on while each resistive force has to fight for attention.

And that is why the most important fight is for control of the Democratic Party.

But this also multiplies the number and variety of people opposing these measures. Of course, they are likely concentrated on the left and right coasts and the urban islands in the “heartland” but the hope is that it arouses enough voters to counterbalance the awful gerrymandering. Apparently, Democrats need at least 20% difference to flip the House even though literal margin is lower because of gerrymandering.

On a motorcycle trip so won’t provide details but there is MORE than ample evidence that abstinence only programs not only don’t work, they lead to increased STDs and teen pregnancies. IOW, those fuckwads aren’t interested in teen pregnancies but power over women is their raison d’etre.
