Up A Tree With The GOP

Now try getting out of the tree.

Here’s a shocker: Republicans want to cancel their August Vacation Recess so they don’t have to face the pitchforks and torches of their constituents. Tiger Beat on the Potomac (thanks Charlie!), take it away!

A group of 10 senators is sending a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Friday morning asking for the GOP leader to shorten the August recess — or cancel it altogether — if the party does not make significant headway on its priorities in July, according to a copy obtained by POLITICO. The letter comes right after Congress left Thursday and scattered across the country for a July 4 recess.

Why’s that?

“Our current Senate calendar shows only 33 potential working days remaining before the end of the fiscal year. This does not appear to give us enough time to adequately address the issues that demand immediate attention. Therefore, we respectfully request that you consider truncating, if not completely foregoing, the scheduled August state work period, allowing us more time to complete our work.” the senators wrote.

Sounds legit. So why the doubts, ‘Grain?

The House Freedom Caucus similarly asked House Speaker Paul Ryan to cancel the August break.

Oh? The people who have been promising a complete repeal of the ACA root and branch for nearly a decade and who have not delivered on it want to stay in hot, steamy DC and “work” — it is to laugh.

“The stakes are much higher this year. We simply cannot afford to lose any additional time in resolving these issues when tax reform is hanging in the balance. Robust change to our tax code is our single most important economic growth tool, and there is already growing anticipation for us to act,” the senators said. “Failure to deliver could have devastating economic consequences.”

Killer material! You guys should do a 20-minute set!

Here’s the thing: the GOP knows that those disruptive town halls this time are genuine (as opposed to the Astroturf protests when the ACA was enacted) and they cannot stand up to 22+ Million Americans who don’t want their healthcare taken away.

And they know that they cannot justify taking away healthcare from their constituents.

Also/too: politicians know (hahaha) how to read polls pretty well (or at least their literate staffers do) and they know that The Russian Usurper is the most loathed preznint in modern history. If the peasants think that their representatives are propping up the mango-hued shitgibbon to have a win for his waterheads and assorted nincompoops, they know that they are doomed.

So this is why they want to work through their vacations instead of have their heads shaved and be marched through the streets with children spitting on them.

Congresscritters hiding from their constituents is a sign that government isn’t working. Shouldn’t they be celebrating instead?

Yeah, their owners, the Real Owners, read them the riot act recently at a Koch-sponsored confab and told them the straight skinny: repeal the ACA and fuck those peasants, and then get in and get those permanent larger tax cuts done by the end of the fiscal year or their will withold all that sweet, sweet big donor cash.
The owners of america, the real owners (it’s a big club and you and I ain’t in it) couldn’t and haven’t cared less for us in decades.
These congressional tools have been given their marching orders and gutting the social safety net is hard when the peasants can see what your doing and refuse to disbelieve their lying eyes.
