And it’s almost everything we thought it would be.
From The Guardian… (Emphasis mine)
According to reports in the Washington Post and Politico, sourced to a draft that was circulating among lobbyists and aides, the Senate proposal would repeal key provisions of the ACA, restructure healthcare subsidies, and cut funding for Medicaid, the health-care program for low-income Americans.
It would keep income-based tax credits and subsidies – which are currently available under the ACA – unlike the House measure, which tied them to age. The proposal would also stagger the cuts to Medicaid expansion, rolling back spending on the healthcare program over four years – as opposed to three, as had been considered – beginning in 2020, according to Politico. This provision is a victory for moderates who were concerned about abruptly cutting Medicaid.
Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell will brief his caucus on the proposal during a meeting on Thursday morning, when the bill is expected to be made public. McConnell has said he would like to vote on the bill before Congress leaves for the Fourth of July recess, at the end of next week.
I’ve read the Senate parliamentarian is throwing out the abortion restrictions from the bill because they aren’t budget oriented.
The forced birthers can be turned because of this call them. Call them all. Call them now.
Remember we are the backbone of the Democratic Party. Our politicians cannot stand without us, but with us they can and will stand up and fight for what we know is right.
Our collective efforts have caused the D’s to not just stand up but to fight back. You know our calls to the R’s are having a similar impact upon them. We need to keep it up.
A call to action:
The stakes are high and no one can help us. We must help ourselves.
- Call your Senators, both D and R.
- Support the D’s
- We, you and I, your sister, brother, uncle, cousin, ex, SO, nieces and nephews are the backbone of the Democratic party. The politicians cannot stand without our constant support.
- Demand the R’s vote against the Trumpcare
- You’re not wasting your time calling the R’s. You’re “putting on the heat.”
- Support the D’s
- Please make two or three calls each day this week.
- Leave VM’s at 4:00 AM or at 11:30 PM
- Make a call during your morning and evening commute.
Don’t let your sisters and brothers down. We need your voice to join with ours.
Protesters, including many who are disabled, lined the halls of Speaker Mitch McConnell’s office when it was revealed that millions of Medicaid patients would be devastated by the Senate healthcare bill.
They were dragged off, on camera, by the Capitol police.
The weakest among us have the most reason to fearful. Don’t let them fight alone.
Make the calls, please.
(DW is disabled, I work to calm her fears every day. She needs me to be strong, confident and hopeful. It’s really hard today. It helps her and others like her to know that there are others fighting this as well.)
