"I love it when a plan comes together!"

“I love it when a plan comes together!”

I personally think this is the funniest story of the weekend: on Friday, less than a week after Reince Priebus went on the Sunday talkies to bash anonymous sources, he want on a anonymous source binge hisself. But that was the kind of weekend it was working for the mad orange Russian Usurper. The WaPo gossips:

Trump was mad — steaming, raging mad. … When Trump ran into Christopher Ruddy on the golf course and later at dinner Saturday, he vented to his friend. ‘This will be investigated,’ Ruddy recalled Trump telling him. ‘It will all come out. I will be proven right.’ ‘He was pissed,’ said Ruddy … ‘I haven’t seen him this angry.’ … [Trump] has been feeling besieged, believing that his presidency is being tormented in ways known and unknown by a group of Obama-aligned critics, federal bureaucrats and intelligence figures — not to mention the media … That angst over what many in the White House call the ‘deep state’ is fermenting daily, fueled by rumors and tidbits picked up by Trump allies within the intelligence community and by unconfirmed allegations that have been made by right-wing commentators.

As reporters began to hear about the Oval Office meeting [on Friday], Priebus interrupted his Friday afternoon schedule to dedicate more than an hour to calling reporters off the record to deny that the outburst had actually happened, according to a senior White House official. ‘Every time there’s a palace intrigue story or negative story about Reince, the whole West Wing shuts down,’ the official said. Ultimately, Priebus was unable to kill the story. He simply delayed the bad news, as reports of Trump dressing down his staff were published by numerous outlets Saturday.”

And my guess is that (the emboldening above was mine) that was leaked by Bullshit Barbie, who clearly has the knives out for Reince, because (Axios email thingie):

Kellyanne Conway took up for Reince, saying that his Hill relationships will pay off in coming negotiations over the agenda: “Reince is doing a great job. He’s chief of staff to a president who’s taking action and disrupting the bureaucracy in a way that no one’s ever seen.”

Anytime Bullshit Barbie is sounding supportive of a team means she’s getting ready to rat-eff him. Always. Tiger Beat is on it like flies on the corpse:

PALACE INTRIGUE — “Knives are out for Reince: Trump’s chief of staff is becoming a singular target of criticism as persistent controversies plague the presidency,” by Alex Isenstadt and Josh Dawsey: “In interviews, over a dozen Trump aides, allies, and others close to the White House said that Priebus, the 44-year-old chief of staff, was becoming a singular target of criticism within the White House. They described a micro-manager who sprints from one West Wing meeting to another, inserting himself into conversations big and small and leaving many staffers feeling as if he’s trying to block their access to Trump. They vented about his determination to fill the administration with his political allies. And they expressed alarm at what they say are directionless morning staff meetings Priebus oversees that could otherwise be used to rigorously set the day’s agenda and counterbalance the president’s own unpredictability. … ‘It’s sheer incompetence,’ said another White House official. ‘There’s a lack of management, and a lack of strategy.’

“The White House vigorously disputed the notion that Priebus is losing the confidence of senior West Wing staff. Senior officials say the president respects the chief of staff for his deep relationships on Capitol Hill, and that no staff shakeup is expected in the immediate future. … [Some staffers] complain about Priebus’s West Wing management, which they argue has become suffocating. They point to his habit of sprinting into meetings — ‘He literally runs,’ said one senior administration official — which has led top aides to believe that he is trying to edge his way into their conversations or monitor their discussions with the president.”

And speaking of Axiox email thingie (and I’m guessing most of this is coming from Priebus’ off-the-record):

I have learned that some — though definitely not all — members of President Trump’s inner circle share his belief that the Obama administration tapped his Trump Tower phones in October. And a White House official told me President Trump not only doesn’t regret this weekend’s fracas despite the lack of evidence for his astonishing claim, he is “absolutely convinced” he’ll be vindicated.

“The president just has a great nose for these things,” the official said. “It’s the bureaucratic leaks — the deep state — that bother him most. Even if it turns out not to be true that they surveilled Trump Tower, he will have a very good point to make about the level of sabotage coming from Obama holdovers.”

Those facts help explain Trump’s high-stakes decision to ask Congress to add Obama abuse of “executive branch investigative powers” to its Russia investigation. For Trump spokespeople, it’s a handy punt: Now they don’t have to defend or explain Trump’s tweets, and just refer questioners to Congress.

But the risk is that there’ll be a day of reckoning — perhaps after documents are subpoenaed and testimony demanded — when a Republican Congress embarrasses the White House by saying the president was flat wrong when he accused his predecessor of a crime.

Towergate is a fascinating test of Trump’s great gamble that he can do the job of president in a totally new way: largely improvisational, driven by whims, moods and obsessessions; thinly staffed, like his campaign, and with poorly enforced process, not taking advantage of the massive safety net available to him; heavily reliant on family; and unconstrained by manners, rituals or precedent.

FBI Director Comey reportedly turned on Trump and asked the Justice Department to reject the tapping claim. And Sen. Marco Rubio expressed skepticism on Sunday shows.

But some well-known Republicans are willing to wage the debate on Trump’s terms. One establishment grandee asked in an email: Did Obama Attorney General Loretta Lynch “approve this??? That is the big Q” — skipping over whether “this” is real.

A Democratic theory is that if Trump believes problematic transcripts of recorded calls with Russians may dribble or gush out, why not discredit them in advance as a political dirty trick? Then when they emerge, you can say “Aha!” rather than being on the defensive.

But a Republican close to the White House said that’s overthinking it: That “view is quite plausible. But I do not believe they are playing chess. I think they are playing Trivial Pursuit.”

…and the NYTimes tells us:

The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, asked the Justice Department this weekend to publicly reject President Trump’s assertion that President Barack Obama ordered the tapping of Mr. Trump’s phones, senior American officials said on Sunday. Mr. Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is false and must be corrected, they said, but the department has not released any such statement. Mr. Comey, who made the request on Saturday after Mr. Trump leveled his allegation on Twitter, has been working to get the Justice Department to knock down the claim because it falsely insinuates that the F.B.I. broke the law, the officials said.

… Mr. Comey’s request is a remarkable rebuke of a sitting president, putting the nation’s top law enforcement official in the position of questioning Mr. Trump’s truthfulness. The confrontation between the two is the most serious consequence of Mr. Trump’s weekend Twitter outburst, and it underscores the dangers of what the president and his aides have unleashed by accusing the former president of a conspiracy to undermine Mr. Trump’s young administration.”

This sounds awfully familiar, didn’t this happen on an episode of The Twilight Zone?
    Or was it Gilligan’s Island?
Does it matter, as long as they end up by killing each other off.

Even if it turns out not to be true, a point will be made about Obama staff sabotage? I’d say we went down the rabbit hole, but it’s really an asshole.
