Activism works: Backstabbing Republican withdraws bill to sell off public lands

I am withdrawing HR 621. I’m a proud gun owner, hunter and love our public lands. The bill would have disposed of small parcels of lands Pres. Clinton identified as serving no public purpose but groups I support and care about fear it sends the wrong message. The bill was originally introduced several years ago. I look forward to working with you. I hear you and HR 621 dies tomorrow. #keepitpublic #tbt

Same thing happened back in the 80’s when Reagan was the King of the Forest.

Unfortunately they didn’t withdraw HR622. From the article…
H.R.622 would terminate the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management and replace it with the new “states rights.”

My wife works for the US Forest Service. I haven’t seen HR 622 but I really would be very surprised if it actually ended the two agencies existence (first of all, they are in 2 different depts – USDA and DOI) and secondly, USFS is hugely popular with GOP voters except for a tiny minority of ranchers in WY and MT. That’s because, you know, forest fires and watershed management. Basic to the entire West’s existence. But Chaffetz is not only an a**hole but just stupid.
