The essence of the Confederate worldview is that the democratic process cannot legitimately change the established social order, and so all forms of legal and illegal resistance are justified when it tries…
The Confederate sees a divinely ordained way things are supposed to be, and defends it at all costs. No process, no matter how orderly or democratic, can justify fundamental change.
This is exactly what is happening now. When I see amply be-chinned Mitch McConnell, the sitting Majority Leader, and a noted southern gentleman telling the first black president that he will not hold any hearings on any SCOTUS nominee, I see ugly racism. Mudor sees it as Republicans defending the social order (whites on top of everything), but we are saying the same thing. Mudor is just saying it with better manners.
